A couple rounds of wetting rains are likely to impact the region over the next 48 hours. The first round will arrive late tonight into Friday morning, and the second will arrive Friday night into Saturday morning. Rainfall totals will range from 0.50-0.75″ over west Kentucky to 0.75-1.25″ across much of southeast MO, southern IL, and southwest IN.
A Haines Index of 6 means a high potential for an existing fire to become large or exhibit erratic fire behavior, 5 means medium potential, 4 means low potential, and anything less than 4 means very low potential.

Beau’s Forecast Discussion
Don’t forget we spring FORWARD this weekend! Sunday morning. Not everyone is a fan of the time change, but at least we gain an hour of daylight.
The SPC has removed the risk of severe weather from today’s forecast. We felt that the risk was higher to our south and now the SPC agrees with that.
We will have lightning conditions today into tomorrow morning, but the risk of severe thunderstorms is nearly zero.
A couple of strong storms will be possible over mainly southern Missouri later today and this evening. Perhaps a report of small hail and gusty wind.
Damaging wind, hail, and the threat of tornadoes will remain to our south. That is the good news.

So, this current rain event is much needed for most of the region.
We will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms today, tonight, and Saturday. Rain will taper west to east Saturday late morning into the afternoon hours.
Peak rain chances on Saturday will be during the morning hours.
Widespread rain is likely today into tomorrow morning. Locally heavy downpours are possible.

All of this rain was moving north northeast across the region.
Rain will continue into this afternoon. There could be a small lull this afternoon and evening before more widespread rain arrives tonight into tomorrow morning.
Lightning will be a concern for those working outside.
If you have outdoor plans Saturday, then I would reconsider those plans. It will be windy, cool, damp, and raw. Rain will taper off as we move through the day, but gusty northwest winds ranging from 15 to 30 mph will make it feel colder. Highs will be in the 50s. Wind chill values will drop into the 30s and 40s.
Not the best day for outdoor activities.
Saturday winds
Some clearing west to east Saturday, mainly during the afternoon.
If winds subside Saturday night, then frost will be a concern.
Frost is possible Sunday night area-wide, as well with light wind conditions.
There could even be a light freeze in some counties as temps fall into the upper 20s and lower 30s.
Either way, if you have sensitive plants outside, then cover them up or bring them inside. I know it has been quite warm lately and everything is blooming. Blooming early, again. Last year was the same way. Everything bloomed early.
Global warming is doing a number on us!
I am watching rain chances Tuesday night into next weekend. A couple of systems to watch, but confidence in the details is low. For now, at least. I will monitor trends in the guidance.
