Issues with Verizon and ATT texting (other phone companies, as well). How to fix this.

Apple users (there are some options for Android now, as well)

Nation-wide Verizon and ATT are throttling texts.  They can arrive 12 to 24 hours after I send them.  They are being sued in California by fire departments because of throttling services.

Our experience has been that our texts can arrive well after the time I have sent them.  I received some texts this morning at 5 AM that I sent yesterday morning.

We can not control the phone companies.  We do, however, have options.

Here is the fix.

Move to the WeatherTalk app.

Download the WeatherTalk app (under Beau Dodson Weather or WeatherTalk in your app store).

Install the app.  Name the device anything you want.  Enter your phone number.  Hit the register device button.  It will send you a code.  Enter that code into the confirmation code box.

Open the app.

Click the settings button in the app.  Turn off texts. (it will say replace texts).

Currently, this option is not available in the Android phones.  We are working on it.  The ultimate fix for everyone is to completely move to the app.

There is a way around it.  See below.

First, if you are having issues with texts arriving at all hours of the day then please email me at

beaudodson@usawx.com

I will see if I can manually shut your texts off from here.

Here is another fix.

** NOTE ANDROID USERS**

If you or a friend has an Apple device then you can turn your Android texts off.  This is how to do it.

1. Download the app onto your Apple device (someone else’s Apple phone, Ipad, Ipod, other)

2. Log into your account with the app.

3.  Once you have entered the WeatherTalk app, click the settings button in the app on your Apple device. Turn off texts (it will say replace texts).

Then, the system won’t send texts to your Android phone. It will send them to your app on your Android phone.

Of course, this requires you to download the WeatherTalk app on your Android device, as well.

Please use the WeatherTalk app instead of your texting service.

We have an invaluable service, but technology can sometimes be a struggle. Preston Louis Ursini is working hard on updating the app so Android people can turn off the texts and just use the app.

Apple users can already do this (again see the top of this post)

We are also adding the blog, videos, maps, and radars to the app (soon). Sound notifications, as well.

This is what the app looks like in the app store.  The orange square with WeatherTalk at the top.

Use our app. It receives the messages instantly.
