Today through August 20th:  A few storms could produce strong and gusty wind over the coming days.  Organized severe weather appears unlikely.  Monitor updates.

Tropical funnel clouds are possible.  These are harmless.

Today’s outlook (below).

Light green is where thunderstorms may occur but should be below severe levels.

Dark green is a level one risk. Yellow is a level two risk. Orange is a level three (enhanced) risk. Red is a level four (moderate) risk. Pink is a level five (high) risk.

One is the lowest risk. Five is the highest risk.

A severe storm is one that produces 58 mph wind or higher, quarter size hail, and/or a tornado.

The tan states are simply a region that SPC outlined on this particular map.  Just ignore that.

The black outline is our local area.

Weather advice:

Updated August 14, 2020

Locally heavy rain could cause roads to flood.  Tropical funnel clouds are possible again today.  These are typically harmless and cause no damage.  They are more of a novelty than anything.

Weather Discussion

    1.   Warm today and tomorrow.  Still a bit humid until the cold front moves through Sunday.
    2.   A few more showers and thunderstorms.
    3.   Cooler next week.  Less humid.

We will have some thunderstorms dotting radar today.  Not as many as yesterday or the day before.  That is the good news.

The bulk of today’s thunderstorms will be over extreme southeast Illinois and the Pennyrile area of western Kentucky.

As you move further west the chances decrease.

Any storms that form will be capable of producing heavy rain and gusty wind.  Lightning, of course.

Saturday will be dry for the most part.  I say for the most part because a cold front will be pushing into the region from the north.  This front will bring a few PM clouds and maybe a couple of light showers.  Right now, the chances are lower-end.  Not expecting much if anything at all.

Highs on Saturday will top out from 84 to 88 degrees.

Both and Saturday and Sunday will remain somewhat humid.

The front pushes through the region on Sunday.  Guidance shows just enough moisture for scattered showers and perhaps a thunderstorms.  This is mainly across western Kentucky and northwest Tennessee.  Chances are once again lower-end.

Highs on Sunday will top out in the 78 to 85 degree range.  Not too bad for August.

Drier air begins to push southward Sunday night and Monday.  That means that it will feel less humid.  Less muggy.  Nicer.

The cooler and drier air will be with us through at least Friday.  Only a small chance of showers Wednesday.

Highs next week will be in the upper 70s to middle 80s.  Lows will be in the upper 50s to middle 60s.  Low humidity levels.  It should feel great outside.  A real treat for this time of the year.

Again, as a reminder, these are models. They are never 100% accurate. Take the general idea from them.

What should I take from these?

  1. The general idea and not specifics. Models usually do well with the generalities.
  2. The time-stamp is located in the upper left corner.

.

What am I looking at?
You are looking at different models.  Meteorologists use many different models to forecast the weather.  All models are wrong.  Some are more wrong than others.  Meteorologists have to make a forecast based on the guidance/models.

I show you these so you can see what the different models are showing as far as precipitation.  If most of the models agree, then the confidence in the final weather forecast increases.
