4 AM radar loop.

Rain has settled into the region.  See the live radar links below.

Key Messages

  • 🌧️ Rainy today: A cold front is moving across the Quad State, bringing widespread showers. A few rumbles of thunder are possible, but no severe weather concerns. Peak rain chances will be this morning into early afternoon.  Rain will taper west to east.
  • 💧 No flooding concerns: Most areas could receive around 0.40″ to 0.80 inches of rain, but it will fall over many hours.  Some locations could receive greater than an inch of rain.
  • 🌡️ Much cooler: High temperatures will only reach the 70s today and through the weekend.
  • ☀️ Dry stretch ahead: Aside from a small chance of a shower across the southern Pennyrile on Saturday and Sunday, dry weather is expected this weekend and through much of next week.
  • 🥶 Some chilly nights next week: Overnight lows will fall into the 50s this weekend, with 40s likely Monday night and Tuesday night.

Forecast Details

Widespread rain will continue across the Quad State this morning. The rain will gradually end from west to east, but showers may continue into the afternoon across western Kentucky.

Atmospheric instability is low, so thunderstorms should be limited. You might hear an occasional rumble of thunder, but severe storms are not expected.

Rainfall totals will generally range from 0.40″ to 0.80″ (locally over an inch). Since the rain will be spread out over roughly 12 hours, flooding is not expected.

Behind the cold front, temperatures will feel much more like October. Highs will generally remain in the 70s through the weekend, with nighttime temperatures falling into the 50s.

Another push of cooler air arrives early next week. That should send temperatures into the 40s Monday night and Tuesday night, making these some of the coolest nights we’ve had so far this season.

Temperatures should begin to moderate later next week. Overall, after today’s rain, we’re looking at a long stretch of mostly dry and pleasant autumn weather.  Not the best news for those needing rain.

** NEW SERVICE **  I have partnered with WeatherCall to bring you an added layer of protection.
.
More information on the WeatherCall subscription service at the link below or use the QR code.

.
We have a new service to complement your www.weathertalk.com subscription.  This does NOT replace www.weathertalk.com It is simply another tool for you to receive severe weather information.

I use it myself. I encourage everyone to have 3 to 5 ways to receive severe weather information. All sources can fail, and the more sources you have, the better prepared you will be in the event of severe weather warnings.
.
WeatherCall will call your cell phone or home number if your home is under a tornado or severe thunderstorm warning.  It only calls you if your home is inside the warning box/polygon. If you are outside the warning box/polygon, it will not disturb you.
Here is a video with more information and a demonstration of how it works.
