Today through October 22nd: Severe weather is not a concern.
Today’s outlook (below).
Light green is where thunderstorms may occur but should be below severe levels.
Dark green is a level one risk. Yellow is a level two risk. Orange is a level three (enhanced) risk. Red is a level four (moderate) risk. Pink is a level five (high) risk.
One is the lowest risk. Five is the highest risk.
A severe storm is one that produces 58 mph wind or higher, quarter size hail, and/or a tornado.
The tan states are simply a region that SPC outlined on this particular map. Just ignore that.
The black outline is our local area.

Weather Discussion
-
- Cold front today.
- Frost chances tonight and Friday night.
- Our next rain chances arrive Sunday PM into early next week.
.
A cold front will pass through the region today. A band of showers will occur along and behind the front. No severe weather. Rain totals will range from 0.00″ to 0.30″. Not much and not nearly enough to break the ongoing drought that blankets some of my forecast counties.
Gusty wind will accompany the front.
Clouds will clear tonight and temperatures will quickly fall off into the upper 20s to middle 30s. A frost and freeze is likely. The frost is more likely if the wind dies down.
Freeze conditions will be possible across portions of southeast Missouri and southern Illinois. That is where temperatures are more likely to fall below the 32 degree mark for several hours tonight.
Friday into Sunday morning will be dry.
Another chance of frost Friday night.
Clouds will begin to increase Sunday ahead of our next cold front. This front is not being handled weather in the model guidance.
Some models bring rain chances back into the region as early as Sunday afternoon and other guidance packages hold it off until Monday.
For now, I have shower chances increasing Sunday night into Tuesday.
Some adjustments remain possible in the percentage chances. Monitor updates.
Otherwise, a decent weekend on tap for the region.

Again, as a reminder, these are models. They are never 100% accurate. Take the general idea from them.
What should I take from these?
- The general idea and not specifics. Models usually do well with the generalities.
- The time-stamp is located in the upper left corner.
.
What am I looking at?
You are looking at different models. Meteorologists use many different models to forecast the weather. All models are wrong. Some are more wrong than others. Meteorologists have to make a forecast based on the guidance/models.
I show you these so you can see what the different models are showing as far as precipitation. If most of the models agree, then the confidence in the final weather forecast increases.
