Weather Outlook
The drought monitor maps will be posted later today. We will see if there has been any improvement in recent weeks.
Temperatures will start to warm up a little today as high pressure moves across the area and sunshine returns. However, cooler air in the upper atmosphere will keep temperatures below normal, with highs staying in the 60s today. Humidity will also be low, with dew points dropping into the 30s.
Even though the air will be fairly dry, recent rain and light winds will help keep the field and brush fire danger low.
Another cold front will approach on Friday afternoon and night. As high pressure moves east, winds will turn from the south and bring warmer, more humid air back into the region. High temperatures should return to the 70s, with humidity increasing as well.
This front may bring some showers and thunderstorms on Friday afternoon and night, but the main energy with this system will stay to our north and east. Because of that, storms should generally remain weak.
Rainfall amounts will vary quite a bit across the region. Areas near the I-64 corridor may see around half an inch of rain, while far southern areas near the Tennessee and Arkansas borders may see little to no rain. See the graphics below.
The weekend starts off very nice.
Saturday will continue the warming trend and could be the warmest day of the forecast, with highs possibly reaching around 80° in some locations. That will feel nice! We deserve some warmer spring days.
Another weather system will arrive late Saturday night into Sunday, bringing another chance of showers and storms. Current forecasts suggest less rainfall than earlier expected, with most places receiving around a third of an inch or less. The best chance for slightly higher rainfall amounts will be across southern Kentucky near the Tennessee border.
Severe weather is not expected to be a major concern at this time.
Temperatures will cool slightly on Monday, with highs near 70°, before warming again into the 70s on Tuesday and possibly near 80° by the middle of next week. Not too bad for May.
Rainfall total maps through Sunday. Not much. Thunderstorms can always enhance totals. Keep that in mind.
