Beau Dodson's WeatherTalk Blog

June 19, 2026. A nice day ahead. Monitoring Sunday’s thunderstorm chances.

.

I am going to try to streamline the blog.  Centered on the most important aspects of the forecast.

.

.

Key Points

🌤️ Dry and comfortable weather will continue through Saturday. Humidity levels will stay lower, making it feel much more pleasant outside.

⛈️ Showers and thunderstorms are expected to become widespread Sunday into Monday. Some storms could produce heavy rainfall, and a few may become severe.

🌡️ Temperatures will stay near or slightly below normal through next week. Daytime highs will generally be comfortable, while nighttime lows will also be cooler than normal—except Sunday night, when temperatures will remain warm in the lower 70s.

Bottom line: Enjoy the dry and comfortable weather through Saturday. Keep an eye on the forecast for Sunday and Monday, as storms, heavy rain, and a few severe weather threats may develop.

Discussion

  • A few showers and thunderstorms may move into western parts of the Quad State late Saturday night as warmer, more humid air returns to the region.
  • There are signs that a large complex of thunderstorms may track across northern Missouri and central/northern Illinois on Sunday. If that happens, the heaviest rain could stay north of our area.
  • However, if storms remain farther north, the Quad State could become warm and unstable Sunday afternoon. This could allow some strong to severe thunderstorms to develop, with damaging winds and large hail as the main threats. A few tornadoes cannot be ruled out.  Monitor updated forecasts over the next few days.
  • If the storm system shifts farther south, the greater concern would become heavy rainfall instead of severe weather.
  • A cold front is expected to move through Sunday night into Monday, bringing an end to most of the showers and thunderstorms.

Tuesday and beyond.

  • Tuesday and Wednesday look mostly quiet, although an isolated shower or thunderstorm cannot be completely ruled out.
  • Rain and thunderstorm chances are expected to increase again by Thursday and Friday as warmer, more humid air moves back into the region.

🌦️ Bottom Line: Watch the forecast closely for Sunday. Strong storms, heavy rain, or both are possible depending on where the storm system tracks. Conditions should improve by Monday, with another chance of rain returning later next week.

🌪️ Seven-Day Tornado and Severe Weather Outlook ⛈️

June 19th  through June 25th

A severe thunderstorm is defined as a storm that produces 58 mph wind gusts and quarter-sized hail or larger.

Current severe weather riskPOSSIBLE.  A few of the thunderstorms on Sunday could be severe.  Monitor updates moving forward.

Here is my weekly thunderstorm concern meter.

.

🌪️ Current tornado risk:  MONITOR.

I am monitoring the threat of severe weather on Sunday.  If severe storms develop, then there could be a low-end tornado risk.  Monitor updates.

Current confidence level in the tornado forecast: Medium.

.

Seven-Day Hazardous Weather Outlook

1. Is lightning in the forecast?  YES.  Isolated lightning late Saturday night.  Lightning is likely on Sunday and Sunday night.  A smaller chance on Monday.  Another chance next Wednesday and Thursday.

2. Is significant or widespread flash flooding in the forecast? ISOLATED ISSUES.  Widespread issues are currently not anticipated.

Locally heavy rain could occur in thunderstorms.  Typical for June.  Any issues would be isolated.

3. Will non-thunderstorm winds top 40 mph? NO.

4. Will the temperature rise above 90 degrees?  NO.

5. Is the heat index forecast to rise above 100 degrees? NO

6. Is the heat index forecast to rise above 110 degrees? NO.

Your body responds to the heat index.  The heat index is more important than the actual temperature.  More information about the heat index: Click here.

Let’s Look At The Five-Day Rainfall Totals Forecast

General rainfall total maps for today through next Wednesday morning.

* As is typical for late spring, totals will vary greatly.  Thunderstorms can double your rainfall totals.  Keep that in mind.

Not everyone will see the totals shown.  Take the general idea from it.

Let’s look at the five-day rain probability maps.   What is the % chance of rain?

These maps are broken down into 12-hour time periods.

* Remember, a 20% chance of rain during the summer months does not mean that it will not rain.  It means there will be a few thunderstorms on the radar.

** NEW SERVICE **  I have partnered with WeatherCall to bring you an added layer of protection.
.
More information on the WeatherCall subscription service at the link below or use the QR code.

.
We have a new service to complement your www.weathertalk.com subscription.  This does NOT replace www.weathertalk.com It is simply another tool for you to receive severe weather information.

I use it myself. I encourage everyone to have 3 to 5 ways to receive severe weather information. All sources can fail, and the more sources you have, the better prepared you will be in the event of severe weather warnings.
.
WeatherCall will call your cell phone or home number if your home is under a tornado or severe thunderstorm warning.  It only calls you if your home is inside the warning box/polygon. If you are outside the warning box/polygon, it will not disturb you.
Here is a video with more information and a demonstration of how it works.
