Light rain showers will taper off this morning as breezy and chilly conditions prevail into the afternoon. Slightly above normal temperatures are expected to start off the week, followed by a slight chance for light rain showers to return on Tuesday. High pressure then builds over the region through the end of the week with even milder temperatures.

A Haines Index of 6 means a high potential for an existing fire to become large or exhibit erratic fire behavior, 5 means medium potential, 4 means low potential, and anything less than 4 means very low potential.

Weather Highlights

    1.   Drier weather.
    2.   A few showers this morning over our eastern counties.  Clouds will linger.  Patchy mist.
    3.   Fast moving weak system Tuesday.  Isolated shower chance.
    4.   Weekend backdoor cold front approaches from the northeast.

Weather advice:

Make sure you have three to five ways of receiving your severe weather information.

Forecast Discussion

Well, it rained!  A lot.

Here were the rainfall totals from the past 24 hours.

It rained more than expected over several rows of counties in southeast Missouri and southern Illinois.

Double click images to enlarge them.

24 hour totals

Seven day totals.  What fell over the last seven days.  Quite the rain event over a large chunk of real estate.

That rain has moved off to the east.   A few spotty showers remain in the region.  Clouds and occasional mist.

Dry conditions will prevail tonight into at least Friday.

The only concern will be a fast moving weak system that arrives Tuesday.  That could bring some clouds and isolated showers.  For now, I capped rain chances at 20%.

Not a big deal.

A slow warming trend into Friday.  Then, a backdoor cold front arrives Saturday and Saturday night.  That will lower temperatures.  Some data shows precipitation with that front, but confidence in that happening is low.  I will need to monitor the data over the next few days.

That system is likely to be a larger system to our south and southeast.  That would be Saturday/Sunday.

You can see that on the GFS model

Saturday morning.

Look at how far south that system digs!  Wow.  To central and southern Florida.  That is an odd system to dig that far south.

I continue to watch mid to late February for colder air.
