Forecast Discussion
An active weather pattern is underway. We have been in an active pattern since the middle of December.
We have several chances of precipitation today through Sunday.
It isn’t going to rain all the time, of course. But, we will have several periods when it will be wet.
Today’s activity will mainly be confined to southeast Missouri and northern portions of southern Illinois. The rest of the area will have a chance of rain, but coverage won’t be as great.
Totals will be light.
You can see the 7:30 AM radar. A band of light rain in the region.
A lull in the precipitation will occur this evening. Then, late tonight more rain will arrive from west to east.
Peak rain chances will be Thursday into Thursday night. A clap of thunder will also be possible.
Then, a lull in the rain late Thursday night into Saturday morning.
Another system will take shape Saturday to our southwest. This one will bring additional rain to the region Saturday night into Sunday.
When all is said and done, rain totals of 0.30″ to 1.00″ will be the general rule. Lowest totals towards Mt Vernon, Illinois and highest totals over our south southwestern counties.

The good news is that we are not expecting any severe thunderstorms or tornadoes! We can be thankful for that.
We will need to monitor frost and freeze chances over the coming seven days.

Obviously, our northern counties will be colder vs south. Winds could help keep frost chances lower.

What am I looking at?
You are looking at different models. Meteorologists use many different models to forecast the weather. All models are wrong. Some are more wrong than others. Meteorologists have to make a forecast based on the guidance/models.
I show you these so you can see what the different models are showing as far as precipitation. If most of the models agree, then the confidence in the final weather forecast increases.
