Today through August 24th:  Not at this time.

.

Today’s outlook (below).

Light green is where thunderstorms may occur but should be below severe levels.

Dark green is a level one risk. Yellow is a level two risk. Orange is a level three (enhanced) risk. Red is a level four (moderate) risk. Pink is a level five (high) risk.

One is the lowest risk. Five is the highest risk.

A severe storm is one that produces 58 mph wind or higher, quarter size hail, and/or a tornado.

The tan states are simply a region that SPC outlined on this particular map. Just ignore that.

The black outline is our local area.

Weather Discussion

Thursday is a travel day for me.  No blog update.  I am going to a weather conference in Pennsylvania.

We are waking up to sunshine over portions of the region.  Other locations have dense fog, showers, and clouds.

Yesterday, the region experienced widespread showers and thunderstorms.  Rain totals ranged from 0.00″ to over an inch.

The heaviest totals fell across southeast Missouri.

Portions of southeast Illinois and northwest Kentucky ended up with no measurable rain.

The system responsible for bring the precipitation to the region continues to sag southward.  There are still a few showers across the Missouri Bootheel and western Tennessee.

Precipitation chances will dwindle over the coming hours.  That will leave us with a mix of sun and clouds.

A mild day ahead of us.  No extremes.

Tonight into Saturday will be mild.  Nice nights.  Nice days.  No extremes.

There is a small chance of an isolated thunderstorm Saturday and Saturday night.

Another disturbance will push into the region Sunday and Monday.  This will bring increasing shower and thunderstorm chances to the region.

At this time, it does not appear that severe weather will be a concern.  I will monitor it, as always.  Perhaps some locally heavy downpours.  Lightning, of couse.

Clouds will help keep temperatures in check Sunday into early next week.

Again, as a reminder, these are models. They are never 100% accurate. Take the general idea from them.

What should I take from these?

  1. The general idea and not specifics. Models usually do well with the generalities.
  2. The time-stamp is located in the upper left corner.

.

What am I looking at?
You are looking at different models. Meteorologists use many different models to forecast the weather. All models are wrong. Some are more wrong than others. Meteorologists have to make a forecast based on the guidance/models.

I show you these so you can see what the different models are showing as far as precipitation. If most of the models agree, then the confidence in the final weather forecast increases.

You can see my final forecast at the top of the page.
