Weather Discussion
Good day, everyone!
I hope you are having a wonderful weekend.
We moved the blog to a new server. We may have to move a portion of it again (over the coming weeks). For now, however, everything is back up and running.
We have a couple of weather concerns over the coming seven day period.
A couple of showers and thunderstorms are moving through northwest Kentucky (as of this writing at 9 am). Those showers and storms will quickly depart to the southeast. Most areas will simply remain dry.
A cold front is pushing through the region. That is the reason for that precipitation.
This front will push through the region mostly dry.
Winds may gust to 20 mph today.
Otherwise, no significant weather concerns.
Our next concern will be a series of disturbances that will push across the region Monday through Wednesday.
Peak precipitation chances will be Tuesday and Wednesday.
There is a small chance of showers and thunderstorms tonight into Monday night across southeast Missouri. Again, most areas will simply remain dry with no weather concerns.
Precipitation chances ramp up Tuesday and Wednesday. For now, I have capped chances around 40% for most of the area. The exception would be higher chances over Missouri and Tennessee.
I may need to increase chances across extreme southern Illinois and western Kentucky, as well. That will depend on the placement of the front. Either way, plan on some showers and thunderstorms on radar Tuesday into Wednesday.
There will be a wide range of rain totals with this event. Mainly because the chances are going to be highest across our southwest and southern counties vs northern and northeastern.
You can see that in this graphic.
Notice that some areas do not receive much in the way of precipitation. Other locations may pick up and inch or two.
That system will push away from the region by Wednesday night and Thursday.
Dry conditions are anticipated Wednesday night through Friday night.
I am then watching another system for the upcoming weekend. That would arrive Saturday and Sunday. For now, I have low-end shower and thunderstorm chances. I will adjust those as confidence in the forecast increases.
Temperatures are going to average below normal this week. Some warming towards the end of the week.
Not too bad for August. Certainly nothing like we have witnessed over the last two months.
Let’s look at the latest drought monitor.
Conditions have improved across much of the region. A decent chunk of the region has been taken out of drought conditions.
Some still need rain.

Again, as a reminder, these are models. They are never 100% accurate. Take the general idea from them.
What should I take from these?
- The general idea and not specifics. Models usually do well with the generalities.
- The time-stamp is located in the upper left corner.
.
What am I looking at?
You are looking at different models. Meteorologists use many different models to forecast the weather. All models are wrong. Some are more wrong than others. Meteorologists have to make a forecast based on the guidance/models.
I show you these so you can see what the different models are showing as far as precipitation. If most of the models agree, then the confidence in the final weather forecast increases.
You can see my final forecast at the top of the page.
