Fire Weather Discussion

Use caution with dry vegetation.  Some counties have burn bans.  Check with your local emergency management office.

As high pressure moves northeastward, a more southeasterly component to winds will raise humidity with minimum RHs in 40-50% range in the east and 50-60% in the west. A light shower can`t be completely ruled out today near the Ohio/Mississippi confluence but otherwise dry weather remains until Friday when a frontal passage brings a small chance of showers. A significant cooldown is expected for the weekend with very dry conditions late weekend into early next week.

A Haines Index of 6 means a high potential for an existing fire to become large or exhibit erratic fire behavior, 5 means medium potential, 4 means low potential, and anything less than 4 means very low potential.

Weather Talk is one of those ways.

** NEW SERVICE **  I have partnered with WeatherCall to bring you an added layer of protection.
We also have a new service to compliment your www.weathertalk.com subscription. This does NOT replace www.weathertalk.com It is simply another tool for you to receive severe weather information.
I use it myself. I encourage everyone to have 3 to 5 ways of receiving their severe weather information. All sources can fail and the more sources you have, the better prepared you will be in the event of severe weather warnings.
WeatherCall will call your cell phone or home number if your home is in a tornado or severe thunderstorm warning. It only calls you if your home is inside the warning polygon. If you are outside the polygon it will not disturb you.

Beau’s Forecast Discussion

Well, we need rain.  Many areas remain very dry.  A few locations, over the last few weeks, did pick up some rainfall.  Many areas, however, did not.

Rain chances continue to dwindle over the coming days.  At one point, it appeared that a tropical disturbance would brush our region from the south.  That system has trended farther south.  Keeping most of the area along the Gulf of Mexico.

That leaves our region dry.

We will have some clouds today.  Perhaps a shower (isolated lightning) here and there, but overall it will be dry.  A bit warmer than 24 hours ago, but nothing out of the ordinary.  A couple of degrees above seasonal averages.

Thursday will be the warmest day of the week.  Highs will be in the upper 80s to around 90 degrees.  Several degrees above average.  A bit humid, as well.

A strong cold front will move into the region Friday and Friday night.  This system appears moisture starved.  A few showers will develop along the front.  Perhaps a clap of thunder, but no severe weather.  Many areas will simply remain dry.

Here is the latest seven day precipitation outlook.  Not good news.  The drought will worsen.  Burn bans will become more numerous.  The September outlook is for below average precipitation.  Again, bad news for those needing rain.

We need a tropical system to move our way with a soaking rain.  That isn’t in the cards, yet.

I chose Mount Vernon, Illinois and Paducah, Kentucky as point locations.

The EC model temperature matrix shows the same.  The average of all the models are at the bottom of the graphic with the calendar date.  You can see the heat in the long range.
