Today through October 6th:  Widespread severe weather is unlikely.

.

.

Today’s outlook (below).

Light green is where thunderstorms may occur but should be below severe levels.

Dark green is a level one risk. Yellow is a level two risk. Orange is a level three (enhanced) risk. Red is a level four (moderate) risk. Pink is a level five (high) risk.

One is the lowest risk. Five is the highest risk.

A severe storm is one that produces 58 mph wind or higher, quarter size hail, and/or a tornado.

The tan states are simply a region that SPC outlined on this particular map. Just ignore that.

The black outline is our local area.

Weather Discussion

    1.   Above average temperatures
    2.   Cooler by the weekend
    3.   Monitoring rain chances Wednesday through the weekend.

Weather advice:

Make sure you are using the Beau Dodson Weather Talk app and not text messages.  We can’t rely on Verizon and ATT to send out the text messages in a timely manner.  Thus, we made the app.  See links at the bottom of the page.

Weather Discussion

No major changes to the forecast discussion.

A rather complex weather forecast through the weekend.

Temperatures today will once again be well above average with widespread middle to upper 80s.

A couple of showers may enter the picture over southeast Missouri today.  The bulk of the region will remain dry.

A series of upper level disturbances will push across or near the region beginning today and lasting into at least Sunday.  Each of these will bring a variety of weather conditions to the region.

The first disturbance will arrive today.  It will mainly impact southeast Missouri and perhaps some counties near the Mississippi River.  Generally, however, areas to the east of the Mississippi River will remain dry.

That disturbance will push away from the region Wednesday night, but another one will replace it for Thursday.  This one will spread showers over just about any given location in the region.  Highest probabilities will again be over southeast Missouri with decreasing chances as you move eastward.

A few rumbles of thunder will also be possible.

Rain chances Thursday night through Friday night will be widely scattered.  Lower-end chances.  If you have outdoor plans then check the weather radars.

A cold front and a disturbance will push towards the region Saturday and Sunday.  This will bring rain chances to just about the entire area.  For now, I have chances in the 30% to 40% range Saturday and then bumping those up to likely by Sunday.  A few rumbles of thunder will again be possible.

Rain totals, for the most part, will range from 0.30″ to 0.60″ with locally higher totals possible.

Temperatures will slowly trend downward into next Monday.  Starting in the 80s and ending in the 70s.  Seasonal norms are in the 70s.  Thus, we will be above average in the temperature department most of the week.

The good news is that severe thunderstorms are not expected.  It is severe weather awareness week.  Don’t forget that autumn can bring severe thunderstorms including violent tornadoes.

Some severe weather information to keep in mind.

Again, as a reminder, these are models. They are never 100% accurate. Take the general idea from them.

What should I take from these?

  1. The general idea and not specifics. Models usually do well with the generalities.
  2. The time-stamp is located in the upper left corner.
  3. The EC European weather model is in Zulu time.

.

What am I looking at?
You are looking at different models. Meteorologists use many different models to forecast the weather. All models are wrong. Some are more wrong than others. Meteorologists have to make a forecast based on the guidance/models.

I show you these so you can see what the different models are showing as far as precipitation. If most of the models agree, then the confidence in the final weather forecast increases.

You can see my final forecast at the top of the page.
