Forecast Discussion
Good morning, everyone!
Sorry, the blog was MIA the last few days. I had to drive to Ohio and Arkansas on weather business!
Thankfully, the weather has been calm.
I say thankfully, but we actually do need rain. It is very dry.
Here is the 30 day precipitation anomaly map. Much of the Ohio Valley is very dry.
Farmers are able to bring their crops in, but there is also a slightly higher risk of field fires. The dust has been prolific.
Several weak disturbances will move across the region today, tomorrow, and Thursday. These disturbances will bring a few showers and thunderstorms to the region.
The chance of storms will be higher across southern Illinois and western Kentucky.
A few of the thunderstorms could produce strong and gusty wind, nickel size hail, downpours, and lightning. There is a small risk of a severe thunderstorm warning.
Drier conditions return Thursday night into the weekend.
Temperatures will be above average through the entire week into next week! Warm warm warm. That equals highs in the 80s.
Dew points will mostly be in the 60s. Somewhat humid air. It won’t feel like autumn.
I continue to monitor the middle of October for a pattern change or a strong cold front. Long way off.
As a reminder, our second “seasonal tornado peak” is upon us. Typically, OCT & NOV delivers volatile weather to our region. Tornadoes are common during the autumn months. As a matter of fact, some of our deadliest tornadoes occur during the autumn & winter months.
What can you do to prepare?

3. Check your favorite LOCAL weather sources on a regular basis. We are always on top of the situation. We will let you know when severe weather is expected.
4. Have a severe weather safety plan for you and your family (make sure kids know what to do when they are home alone)
5. Teach your kids where they live on the local radar map. Ask them, during the weather broadcast, to point out where they live.
