I hope you are having a nice week.
We are waking up to increasing clouds.
An upper level low is pushing across Missouri and Arkansas. This is helping to trigger showers and thunderstorms to our west.
This system will slowly push eastward today. Weakening.
Expect scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms on radar today and tonight. This activity will push from west to east across the region.
Many areas may receive little or no rainfall. Other spots will pick up 0.10″ to 0.30″. There are hints in the data for a few heavier showers over central and northern portions of southern Illinois.
Severe thunderstorms are not anticipated. Isolated lightning strikes.
Several disturbances will push across the region Thursday into next Monday. These will deliver additional shower and thunderstorm chances.
Severe weather is not anticipated. The concern will be wet roadways and lightning. Nothing extreme.
If you have weekend plans, then I would not cancel them. I would simply monitor the Beau Dodson Weather Radars. Some showers will be possible. Bring along a jacket and umbrella, just in case.
Temperatures will be highly dependent on cloud cover. Expect widespread upper 70s to middle 80s into Sunday.
Rain totals won’t be enough to break the ongoing dryness of the ground, but every bit does help.

I continue to monitor the long range for a bigger pattern shift. An autumn pattern shift. For now, I am watching the second week (or so) of October.
As a reminder, our second “seasonal tornado peak” is upon us. Typically, OCT & NOV delivers volatile weather to our region. Tornadoes are common during the autumn months. As a matter of fact, some of our deadliest tornadoes occur during the autumn & winter months.
What can you do to prepare?
1. Make sure you are using the Beau Dodson weathertalk.com app.
2. Make sure you have THREE TO FIVE ways of receiving your severe weather information. Do not depend on just one or two.
3. Check your favorite LOCAL weather sources on a regular basis. We are always on top of the situation. We will let you know when severe weather is expected.
4. Have a severe weather safety plan for you and your family (make sure kids know what to do when they are home alone)
5. Teach your kids where they live on the local radar map. Ask them, during the weather broadcast, to point out where they live.
