Today through September 22nd: Widespread severe weather is not anticipated. A few storms could produce gusty winds. I am monitoring a stronger cold front Tuesday. The bulk of the rain may end up behind that front. If so, then the severe risk would be low.
.
.
Today’s outlook (below).
Light green is where thunderstorms may occur but should be below severe levels.
Dark green is a level one risk. Yellow is a level two risk. Orange is a level three (enhanced) risk. Red is a level four (moderate) risk. Pink is a level five (high) risk.
One is the lowest risk. Five is the highest risk.
A severe storm is one that produces 58 mph wind or higher, quarter size hail, and/or a tornado.
The tan states are simply a region that SPC outlined on this particular map. Just ignore that.
The black outline is our local area.

Make sure you are using the Beau Dodson Weather Talk app and not text messages. We can’t rely on Verizon and ATT to send out the text messages in a timely manner. Thus, we made the app. See links at the bottom of the page.

Weather Discussion
The primary weather story, over the coming days, will be scattered showers and thunderstorms. The bulk of this activity, today through Sunday, will be across the southern half of the region. That would include the Missouri Bootheel, western Kentucky, and northwest Tennessee. See the future-cast radars and you will take away the general idea of what the southern half of the region looks like.
As you move further north, the chances of showers and thunderstorms will decrease. The chances won’t be zero as you move north. They will simply be lower probabilities.
The activity could be numerous from time to time across our southern counties.
If you have outdoor plans today through Monday then you will want to monitor the weather radars and have a plan B. Then, go about your activities.
Locally heavy rain will be possible with any showers and thunderstorms that form. There is a tropical feed into the activity. That enhances moisture content in the atmosphere.
PWAT values are going to be running high. PWAT is a measure of moisture in the entire atmosphere.
A stronger cold front will push across the region Tuesday and Tuesday night. Widespread showers and thunderstorms are likely with this front. A few storms could be strong if they form ahead of the front.
Latest guidance indicates a good amount of the precipitation may occur behind the cold front. If that is the case then the risk of any severe thunderstorms will be very low.
Typically, severe weather occurs ahead of cold fronts and not behind them.
I know many people need rain. This cold front may be our best bet, outside of the daily scattered activity over the coming days, for measurable rainfall.
On another note, we may see low temperatures in the 40s next Wednesday or Thursday night.

Again, as a reminder, these are models. They are never 100% accurate. Take the general idea from them.
What should I take from these?
- The general idea and not specifics. Models usually do well with the generalities.
- The time-stamp is located in the upper left corner.
- The EC European weather model is in Zulu time.
.
What am I looking at?
You are looking at different models. Meteorologists use many different models to forecast the weather. All models are wrong. Some are more wrong than others. Meteorologists have to make a forecast based on the guidance/models.
I show you these so you can see what the different models are showing as far as precipitation. If most of the models agree, then the confidence in the final weather forecast increases.
You can see my final forecast at the top of the page.
