Forecast discussion

  •   Cool temperatures into the weekend.
  •   Monitoring frost potential.
  •   Cool and dry for Halloween.
  •   A slight chance of showers Saturday night/Sunday morning.
  •   Watching another rain event late next week/weekend.  Plenty of time to monitor that.

.
Good morning, everyone.

Today and tonight

We will have gusty winds today, especially this morning, mainly in the 10 to 20 mph range.

Our rain event has pushed off to the east.  The region received a nice soaking rain.  The rainfall total maps will come out around 8 AM.  Much of the area received an inch of rain (some locations more than that).

Our drought is coming to an end.  That makes two soaking rains in less than a week!  Autumn has arrived.

Temperatures today will be a bit below average.  Nothing extreme.

Here is today’s temperature anomaly.  Normal highs for this time of the year are in the low 60s.

This map shows that today’s temperatures will be 2 to 5 degrees below average.

.

The morning satellite shows quite a bit of sunshine over the area.  We do still have some clouds over our eastern counties.

Here was the 6 AM satellite

It may take a few more hours for the clouds over our eastern counties to depart.  Any remaining drizzle or light showers will push eastward.

.

There could be some patchy frost tonight.  The risk is a bit higher across southeast Missouri and southern Illinois.  Temperatures will be marginal for frost.

Friday through Sunday

Friday will be dry and cool.  Highs will range from the upper 50s to the lower 60s.  Evening temperatures will be in the 40s/50s.  Lows will be in the 30s.

I can’t rule out frost on Friday and Saturday night.  Depending on wind speeds and clouds.

I did include a slight chance of showers on Saturday night and Sunday morning.  Temperatures will remain above freezing.  There could be sleet mixed in with the rain, but there would be no impacts from that.  It is too warm.

A mix of sun and clouds on Saturday and Sunday will keep temperatures a bit cooler.

Cool temperatures into this weekend.  A bit warmer next week.  No extremes.  Pretty nice for late October and early November.

.

I am watching from November 7th to November 9th for another cold front.

Models are going back and forth on this system producing showers.  The GFS is a bit more bullish vs the EC model.

For now, I am just monitoring it.  Perhaps some showers along the front.

We have a new service to complement your www.weathertalk.com subscription.  This does NOTreplace www.weathertalk.com It is simply another tool for you to receive severe weather information.

.
I use it myself. I encourage everyone to have 3 to 5 ways of receiving their severe weather information. All sources can fail, and the more sources you have, the better prepared you will be in the event of severe weather warnings.
.
WeatherCall will call your cell phone or home number if your home is under a tornado or severe thunderstorm warning.  It only calls you ifyour home is inside the warning box/polygon. If you are outside the warning box/polygon it will not disturb you.
Here is a video with more information and a demonstration of how it works.
