Good morning, everyone.
I hope you are having a nice week. The region has been experiencing autumn weather. Decent days. Cool nights. Some clouds from time to time.
I do not have any weather concerns today. We do have patchy fog in the region. Other than that, much of the region is experiencing sunshine. Our far eastern counties still have lingering clouds.
Clouds, during the fall, can be difficult to shake. They can be stubborn and stick around longer than during the spring and summer months.
That is why these cloud decks linger after a storm system has pulled away.
Patchy fog will be possible tonight and Wednesday morning.
Winds will turn southerly over the next 24 hours. Gusty, at times.
Our next cold front will push into the region Wednesday night into Thursday.
This front will be accompanied by increasing clouds. Moisture will be limited with this front, but not zero.
I am expecting light showers to develop Wednesday night over southeast Missouri and southern Illinois. They could push as far east as western Kentucky and northwest Tennessee.
Dry air at the surface, however, may limit the eastward extent of the precipitation.
Rain shower coverage will increase Thursday and Thursday night. The good news is that we are not expecting severe weather with this system.
Rain showers will continue into Thursday night and then end Friday. I will keep an eye on our eastern counties in case light showers linger into Friday.
Otherwise, Friday will deliver cool temperatures and some clouds.
Rain totals with this event will be light. Expect 0.01″ t0 0.20″.
Here is the NOAA rainfall forecast map from the NWS. You can see light totals in our region. They do indicate somewhat higher totals as you move eastward.
Either way, not a drought busting rain. Many areas, in our region, are dry. Not all, but many.
I am watching October 25th through the 31st for a stronger cold front.
It is still too early to know if this will bring severe weather or frost/freeze conditions. There are signals for a strong cold front, but it is just too far out to make a forecast.
I have been watching this one for about a month.
There continues to be some signals for colder air (frost/freeze) towards the end of the month.
Here is the EC model matrix for low temperatures.
The bottom left is today. The more numbers that agree in the vertical column, the higher the confidence in the forecast low. For example, if all the numbers say 60 degrees, then there is a high chance the low will be 60 degrees.
As you move to the right, you can follow the month and day.
Notice how it becomes colder in the long range. But, the numbers are all over the place.
There is a signal for a cold shot. Just how cold is the question.
