Fire Weather Discussion
A cold front will move through later today bringing in much drier air tonight. Breezy westerly winds today shift northerly tonight with gusts between 15-25 mph possible. High mixing heights will lead to good smoke dispersion today and Monday, with minRH values falling to around 30-35% during the afternoon hours. Temperatures will remain well below normal through the middle of the week.
A Haines Index of 6 means a high potential for an existing fire to become large or exhibit erratic fire behavior, 5 means medium potential, 4 means low potential, and anything less than 4 means very low potential.

Beau’s Forecast Discussion
Well, the weather is certainly boring. Once again, drought is developing. We need rain.
Thank goodness we received rain from Helene. Otherwise, some locations would be going on 8 to 12 weeks with little or no rainfall. A very unusual weather pattern for our region.
If you much burn fields or brush, then use care. Use care with combines, as well.
A strong cold front is pushing across the region today (Sunday). The front will slowly move northwest to southeast.
Highs ahead of the front will pop into the 80s! Will that be the last 80s of the year? I would not take that bet, but certainly it will become less and less common. I can’t rule out some stray 80s over the coming weeks.
You can expect highs in the 60s tomorrow and Tuesday. Well below average.
I would not be surprised if some northern counties remain in the 50s. That is chilly air compared to the past week!
Unfortunately, the cold front will not produce showers and thunderstorms. It is a dry front.
It will be a cool week with slowly moderating temperatures as we push into Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
With the cold front approaching, breezy conditions are likely today into tomorrow. Wind gusts above 20 mph are likely.
Winds will become calm by Tuesday night and Wednesday. Low temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday night will dip into the chilly 30s.
Not sure this is a killing frost, but we will see. I can’t rule it out. Lows will mostly range from 34 to 38. Perhaps isolated colder spots.
I will need to monitor the Missouri Bootheel eastward along the Kentucky/Tennessee border. That area may have a slightly lower chance of frost. We will have to see where temperatures land.
I am watching a couple of cold fronts next weekend into the following week. Whether they are dry or bring a chance of showers will need to be monitored. We aren’t having much luck with cold fronts producing rain.
Don’t forget, our second severe weather season is approaching. Typically, late October into November produce systems with severe weather. That does include tornadoes. Our deadliest tornadoes tend to be in the autumn and winter.
