Today through November 14th:  I am monitoring a system next Wednesday into Thursday.  It is too soon to know if this system will produce severe thunderstorms.  Monitor updates.

.

Today’s outlook (below).

Light green is where thunderstorms may occur but should be below severe levels.

Dark green is a level one risk. Yellow is a level two risk. Orange is a level three (enhanced) risk. Red is a level four (moderate) risk. Pink is a level five (high) risk.

One is the lowest risk. Five is the highest risk.

A severe storm is one that produces 58 mph wind or higher, quarter size hail, and/or a tornado.

The tan states are simply a region that SPC outlined on this particular map. Just ignore that.

The black outline is our local area.

Weather Discussion

    1.     Calm weather continues!
    2.     Chilly temperatures will moderate over the coming days.
    3.     Watching a system next week.

Weather advice:

Make sure you are using the Beau Dodson Weather Talk app and not text messages.  We can’t rely on Verizon and ATT to send out the text messages in a timely manner.  Thus, we made the app.  See links at the bottom of the page.

.

Weather Discussion

Well, the weather continues to be quiet.  Great for farmers who are finishing up their field work.  No complaints!

It has been chilly.  We had another night of widespread 20s and 30s.  A widespread frost/freeze has been reported in the region.  This should take care of the growing season.  Bringing it to an end.  Maybe we can stop mowing our yards?

It will remain quiet through at least Tuesday night.  Some models show a couple of light showers Tuesday afternoon/night, but I left the forecast dry (for now at least).

A larger storm system takes shape Wednesday and Thursday of next week.  I have been watching this one for the past two weeks.  Everything appears on track or some gusty winds, showers, and perhaps even a few thunderstorms by next Wednesday night into Thursday night.

I will need to work on the timing of the main band of showers and thunderstorms.  That will occur along the cold front.  At this time, it remains too soon to know if severe thunderstorms will be a concern.  See the future-cast radars below in the radar section.

You can see the system on the GFS model.  Green is rain.  This is early Thursday morning.  Dark blue up north would be snow!

The area of low pressure appears to be fairly far north on most model data.  This too needs to be monitored.  Occasionally, models are further south and that would enhance the severe thunderstorm risk.

For now, I am simply monitoring trends in the guidance.  I will see if anything stands out as far as severe weather threats as we draw closer to the event.

As it stands, I have showers and thunderstorms in the forecast beginning next Wednesday and lasting into at least Thursday night.  The chance of snow appears to stay to our north through Friday.

I am watching next weekend.  There are a couple of fast moving disturbances that could bring some rain or snow showers to the region. Still a bit early for certainties.  Just something that I am monitoring.  Accumulation chances would likely be small (if it snows at all).

.

Again, as a reminder, these are models. They are never 100% accurate. Take the general idea from them.

What should I take from these?

  1. The general idea and not specifics. Models usually do well with the generalities.
  2. The time-stamp is located in the upper left corner.
  3. The EC European weather model is in Zulu time.

.

What am I looking at?
You are looking at different models. Meteorologists use many different models to forecast the weather. All models are wrong. Some are more wrong than others. Meteorologists have to make a forecast based on the guidance/models.

I show you these so you can see what the different models are showing as far as precipitation. If most of the models agree, then the confidence in the final weather forecast increases.

You can see my final forecast at the top of the page.
