Weather Discussion
-
- Brief warming trend today and especially tomorrow.
- Widespread rain Wednesday night/Thursday.
- Dry Friday into Saturday.
- Small chance of a shower Saturday night.
Weather advice:
Make sure you are using the Beau Dodson Weather Talk app and not text messages. We can’t rely on Verizon and ATT to send out the text messages in a timely manner. Thus, we made the app. See links at the bottom of the page.

Weather Discussion
Let’s look at November’s temperature month to date. Have they been warmer and cooler than average? Cooler, actually. The west has been warmer than average.
.
Brrr. A cold start to the morning. Widespread 20s.
7 AM temperatures. A few locations dipped into the upper teens.
Temperatures will be a little milder today and quite a bit milder Wednesday. Expect highs by Wednesday to be around 60 degrees!
We should have quite a bit of sunshine today (a few clouds) with increasing clouds Wednesday.
We will also have gusty winds Wednesday. Wind gusts should top 30 mph from time to time. That will occur ahead of our next cold front that will push into the region Wednesday night and Thursday.
Wind gusts Wednesday
Widespread rain will develop over southeast Missouri and southern Illinois late Wednesday night. That will spread eastward into the morning hours of Thanksgiving.
Expect widespread rain Thursday. The bulk of the rain should be during the morning hours Thursday vs the afternoon. A few remaining showers will be possible during the afternoon.
The rain will end west to east Thursday. That means southeast Missouri and southwest Illinois will see rain-free conditions first and the Pennyrile area of western Kentucky will experience rain-free conditions last.
You can see the rain probabilities on these charts.
Wednesday night
Thursday
Thursday night
Thursday night should be dry and quite a bit colder with lower to middle 20s expected. Brr.
Cold air will usher in behind the front Thursday night and Friday. Lows by Friday morning will drop into the lower to middle 20s.
There is a chance of patchy black ice Thursday night. If the wind does not dry surfaces, then water (from the rain that has fallen) will freeze.
.
Rain totals from the Wednesday night and Thursday will range from 0.25″ to 0.50″. Locally higher totals are possible.
Here is the general idea for rain totals during that time period.
.
Dry conditions are anticipated Friday and Saturday.
Colder Friday morning with widespread low to middle 20s. Brr.
Clouds will increase during the day Saturday from the northwest. A couple of light showers will be possible Saturday evening/night over primarily southeast Illinois and western Kentucky. A fast moving clipper-like system will push through the region (fairly moisture starved).
Dry conditions Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.
Long range indicates a warming trend next week. No severe weather in the charts. No snow or ice in the charts.
The long range shows another chance of precipitation around next Wednesday/Thursday.
Wednesday (long way out for models to be accurate). I will watch trends in the guidance.
Thursday
Another one around December 2nd. Long range out. We got this lala land in the model world.
.
Click here if you would like to return to the top of the page.
Again, as a reminder, these are models. They are never 100% accurate. Take the general idea from them.
What should I take from these?
- The general idea and not specifics. Models usually do well with the generalities.
- The time-stamp is located in the upper left corner.
- The EC European weather model is in Zulu time.
.
What am I looking at?
You are looking at different models. Meteorologists use many different models to forecast the weather. All models are wrong. Some are more wrong than others. Meteorologists have to make a forecast based on the guidance/models.
I show you these so you can see what the different models are showing as far as precipitation. If most of the models agree, then the confidence in the final weather forecast increases.
You can see my final forecast at the top of the page.
