Our much talked about rain event is arriving.
6 AM radar shot.
See the live radars farther down in the blog.
Scattered showers dot the radar this morning. Some of this is virga. Virga is rain falling from clouds, but not reaching the ground. That is because there is a dry layer of air near the surface. The rain is evaporating.
Don’t expect too much in the way of measurable rain until later this afternoon and tonight. Between now and then less than 0.10″ is anticipated. Perhaps a tad more over southeast Missouri and Illinois.
Widespread showers and thunderstorms will push into the region this afternoon and tonight. Locally moderate downpours are possible, as well.
Rain totals of 0.6 to 1.2″ is anticipated. There will be pockets of greater than 1.2″.

Patchy light rain and drizzle will continue into Tuesday.
Clouds will linger into a portion of Tuesday night, then some clearing late at night.
Colder air will filter into the region Tuesday afternoon and night. It will feel like Thanksgiving with highs in the 40s/50s. Lows Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings will dip into the 20s and 30s (mainly 30s).
Some models show a trace of rain Thursday night and Friday. For now, I have capped rain chances at 10%. The NWS has them at 20%. Either way, it won’t amount to anything of significance.
Dry conditions Friday night through Sunday. No weather concerns. No snow or ice storms.
