7-day forecast for southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, western Kentucky, and western Tennessee.
This is a BLEND for the region. See the detailed region by region forecast further down in this post.
THE FORECAST IS GOING TO VARY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION.
SEE THE DAILY DETAILS (REGION BY REGION) FURTHER DOWN IN THIS BLOG UPDATE.
Once again, a frontal boundary will be located over our region Monday and then another one Wednesday night into Friday.
These frontal boundaries will have weak disturbances that will move across them. When that happens, scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms will develop.
As you have witnessed over the past seven days, it is very difficult to forecast the percent chance of rain.- The numbers will fluctuate as we draw closer to each 12 hour period.
48-hour forecast
.
.
Monday to Monday
1. Is lightning in the forecast? Yes. On and off chances throughout the week.

Today through August 10th: Summer thunderstorm can produce isolated wind damage/downburst winds. That is a possibility this week. Widespread severe weather is not anticipated.
.
.
Today’s outlook (below).
Light green is where thunderstorms may occur but should be below severe levels.
Dark green is a level one risk. Yellow is a level two risk. Orange is a level three (enhanced) risk. Red is a level four (moderate) risk. Pink is a level five (high) risk.
One is the lowest risk. Five is the highest risk.
A severe storm is one that produces 58 mph wind or higher, quarter size hail, and/or a tornado.
The tan states are simply a region that SPC outlined on this particular map. Just ignore that.
The black outline is our local area.

-
- Monitoring frontal boundaries.
- Heat builds back in this week, but clouds and precipitation later in the week may equal lower temperatures.
.
Weather advice:
Monitor your Beau Dodson Weather app. Thunderstorms are likely over the next several days. A few could become severe with high wind gusts.

Weather Discussion
It has been a difficult forecast over the past week.
A stalled frontal boundary, with weak disturbances moving along it, has caused on and off showers and thunderstorms.
I told everyone not to get too caught up in the % chances. I said there would be rain on radar every single day but that it would not rain everywhere every day. That is what happened.
I was disappointed by the Sunday (during the day) rain coverage. Yes, there were quite a few showers and thunderstorms in the region, but it wasn’t as widespread as I was forecasting. You win some and lose some.
These summer fronts are extremely difficult to manage (forecast-wise).
Rain totals, over the past seven days, have ranged from less than 0.40″ to over 6.00″. Typical for a summer cold front. Feast or famine is what I call these fronts.
The front caused catastrophic damage in eastern Kentucky. Over twenty people were killed in flash flooding. Rain totals exceeded eleven inches. Incredible.
Same for St Louis. This same front produced their extreme rain totals, as well. Over fourteen inches in a few spots.
The weak frontal boundary remains in the area, but is shifting northward.
Weak disturbances will continue to produce at least a few showers and thunderstorms into Monday. Many locations may remain dry. A few locations will pick up some additional rain.
Monday’s thunderstorms could produce isolated wind damage. Locally heavy rain and lightning, of course.
Let’s look back at the last seven days. Rainfall totals.
Just look at the range!
Double click the image to enlarge it.
It will be quite warm and humid Monday. Dew points will be higher in areas that received rain. That equals muggy air.
Tuesday and Wednesday will be hot and muggy. Small chances of showers and thunderstorms.
Another front is now forecast to push southward Wednesday night into Friday. This front will likely stall out over our region. Disturbances will move along the front. This will once again trigger showers and thunderstorms.
Once again, locally heavy rain will be a concern.
A few of the thunderstorms this week could produce isolated wind damage, as well. Same as recent weeks.
The front will bring more clouds to the region. This will likely mean lower temperatures Thursday into Saturday. We will have to see exactly where the front stalls. This will be key to cloud cover and precipitation chances. Same as this past week.

Again, as a reminder, these are models. They are never 100% accurate. Take the general idea from them.
What should I take from these?
- The general idea and not specifics. Models usually do well with the generalities.
- The time-stamp is located in the upper left corner.
.
What am I looking at?
You are looking at different models. Meteorologists use many different models to forecast the weather. All models are wrong. Some are more wrong than others. Meteorologists have to make a forecast based on the guidance/models.
I show you these so you can see what the different models are showing as far as precipitation. If most of the models agree, then the confidence in the final weather forecast increases.
You can see my final forecast at the top of the page.
