Today through May 31st: A few storms could be intense today and tonight. The primary concern will be a report or two of high winds and hail. A few cold air funnels are also possible. Cold air funnels typically don’t touch down or cause damage. Rarely.
.
.
Today’s outlook (below).
Light green is where thunderstorms may occur but should be below severe levels.
Dark green is a level one risk. Yellow is a level two risk. Orange is a level three (enhanced) risk. Red is a level four (moderate) risk. Pink is a level five (high) risk.
One is the lowest risk. Five is the highest risk.
A severe storm is one that produces 58 mph wind or higher, quarter size hail, and/or a tornado.
The tan states are simply a region that SPC outlined on this particular map. Just ignore that.
The black outline is our local area.

Forecast Discussion
Thursday into Friday
Scattered showers and thunderstorms have been ongoing since yesterday. See the live weather radar links at the bottom of the page.
We will have scattered showers and thunderstorms in the region today, tonight, and tomorrow.
All of this is associated with a large upper level low pressure center that will be spinning through the region. These upper levels low can occasionally produce intense thunderstorms.
The primary concern today and tonight will be a few storms producing torrential rain, 55 mph wind gusts, nickel size hail, and lightning. I can’t rule out some funnel cloud reports.
The atmosphere will be such that a few cold air funnels will be possible. Cold air funnels typically do not cause any harm. They rarely touch down. If one does touch down then it is typically weak and produces little or no damage.
Cold air funnels form beneath showers or weak thunderstorms when the air aloft is especially cold. The funnels are most common in the fall and spring when the sun is able to heat up the lower levels of the atmosphere, causing convection to bubble up and form showers, but temperatures around 15,000 to 20,000 feet above the ground are quite cold. Cold air funnels are usually harmless, but on rare occasions they can touch down and cause EF-0 level (winds up to 85 mph) tornado damage.
We will have to deal with on and off showers and thunderstorms into Friday. The system is moving a tad slower than anticipated. Thus, the precipitation will linger a bit longer.
Temperatures today and tomorrow will likely remain in the upper 60s to middle 70s. Somewhat below seasonal averages.
Saturday through Tuesday
The system responsible for our unsettled weather will push off to the east by Saturday. That will leave us with partly cloudy sky conditions and somewhat warmer temperatures. Nothing extreme for your Saturday. Decent camping weather.
A warming trend will begin this weekend. Expect highs by Monday and Tuesday to top out around 90 degrees. That would be above our seasonal norms.
It will be humid, as well.
Expect dry conditions Saturday through Tuesday.
Sunday high temperatures
Monday high temperatures
Tuesday high temperatures
Wednesday high temperatures

Again, as a reminder, these are models. They are never 100% accurate. Take the general idea from them.
What should I take from these?
- The general idea and not specifics. Models usually do well with the generalities.
- The time-stamp is located in the upper left corner.
.
What am I looking at?
You are looking at different models. Meteorologists use many different models to forecast the weather. All models are wrong. Some are more wrong than others. Meteorologists have to make a forecast based on the guidance/models.
I show you these so you can see what the different models are showing as far as precipitation. If most of the models agree, then the confidence in the final weather forecast increases.
You can see my final forecast at the top of the page.
