7-day forecast for southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, western Kentucky, and western Tennessee.
This is a BLEND for the region. See the detailed region by region forecast further down in this post.

Monday to Monday
1. Is lightning in the forecast? Yes. Tuesday, Tuesday night, Wednesday, Thursday, Thursday night, and Friday. Peak chances Tuesday night, Wednesday, and Thursday night/Friday morning.
2. Are severe thunderstorms in the forecast? Monitor. A couple of storms could produce 50 mph wind gusts Wednesday. Perhaps some hail, as well. I am monitoring late Thursday afternoon into Friday morning for a few intense thunderstorms. Confidence in severe weather is currently low.
The NWS officially defines a severe thunderstorm as a storm with 58 mph wind or greater, 1″ hail or larger, and/or tornadoes
3. Is flash flooding in the forecast? Not at this time.
4. Will the heat index top 100 degrees? No.
5. Will the wind chill dip below 10 degrees above zero? No.
6. Will there be accumulating snow and ice in the forecast? No.

Today through May 31st: A few storms may be strong Wednesday, Thursday night, and Friday.
It appears the risk of severe weather Wednesday is low. Thursday night and Friday could deliver a slightly higher chance of a few thunderstorms producing hail and high wind. Monitor updates. Confidence in severe weather, for now at least, is low.
.
.
Today’s outlook (below).
Light green is where thunderstorms may occur but should be below severe levels.
Dark green is a level one risk. Yellow is a level two risk. Orange is a level three (enhanced) risk. Red is a level four (moderate) risk. Pink is a level five (high) risk.
One is the lowest risk. Five is the highest risk.
A severe storm is one that produces 58 mph wind or higher, quarter size hail, and/or a tornado.
The tan states are simply a region that SPC outlined on this particular map. Just ignore that.
The black outline is our local area.

Weather Discussion
-
- Nice today.
- Scattered showers/storms Tuesday.
- Rain chances ramp up Tuesday night/Wednesday.
- Rain chances ramp up Thursday night/Friday.
- Cooler weekend.
.
The weather will be a bit busier this week compared to last week.
Can you believe that we have only experienced one severe weather event this year? May 4th. That is when we had several tornadoes, numerous wind damage reports, and hail.
We have experienced a couple of smaller events with some hail reports. For the most part, however, the May 4th event was the only significant severe weather day.
This is highly unusual. We typically experience numerous severe weather events. We should be thankful!
Record low severe weather over a large chunk of the Ohio Valley northward. Let’s hope this continues.
If we can slide into mid-June, July, and August, then our severe risks typically are lower. We can have summer squall lines moving in from the west/northwest. Something to monitor.
We can also experience dying tropical systems. Those can produce short-lived tornadoes.
Let’s see how the coming weeks go.
The weather will be quiet today. Warm, again. Similar to what we experienced over the weekend. Tonight will be dry, as well.
Several upper-level disturbances will push into our region Tuesday through Friday. It definitely won’t rain all of the time.
A few scattered showers/thunderstorms Tuesday. Then, rain chances ramp up a bit Tuesday night into Wednesday. Ending north to south Wednesday afternoon and evening.
A few of those storms could be intense with strong and gusty wind. Hail, as well.
Rain totals will vary based on where thunderstorms occur. For the most part, rain totals will range from 0.10″ to 0.40″. Locally higher in thunderstorms.
We have a lull in precipitation chances Wednesday night into the first part of Thursday.
Another, potentially stronger system, will arrive Thursday night into Friday. This system may produce a line of thunderstorms that will push across the region.
If that does develop then pockets of 0.50″ to 1.00″ will likely occur. Once again, however, rain totals will vary greatly from one county to the next.
Here is the WPC/NOAA rainfall outlook through Saturday.
.
Here is the NAM model. 12-hour rain totals. Keep in mind the model will smooth these numbers over. Totals will vary.
.
Much cooler weather is anticipated Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Latest guidance indicates highs may remain in the 70s over the weekend and then lows in the 50s. Much cooler than recent days.
Most likely Saturday and Sunday will be dry. Perhaps a low-end shower chance Monday as a weak wave moves into the region from the west.
Monitor updates
Here is the weekend temperature forecast numbers. Spring temperatures. Cooler.

Again, as a reminder, these are models. They are never 100% accurate. Take the general idea from them.
What should I take from these?
- The general idea and not specifics. Models usually do well with the generalities.
- The time-stamp is located in the upper left corner.
- The EC European weather model is in Zulu time.
.
What am I looking at?
You are looking at different models. Meteorologists use many different models to forecast the weather. All models are wrong. Some are more wrong than others. Meteorologists have to make a forecast based on the guidance/models.
I show you these so you can see what the different models are showing as far as precipitation. If most of the models agree, then the confidence in the final weather forecast increases.
You can see my final forecast at the top of the page.
