Highlights
1. Get ready for a wonderful weekend full of sun and warm temperatures.
2. Next decent chance for rain will be towards the end of next week
Well, a few spots had frost on Friday morning. Hopefully this will be the last frost of the spring season. That is my forecast. Hopefully we can squeak through the coming weeks with no additional risk of frost.
A wonderful weekend is on tap for our region. Temperatures will reach into the 70’s on both Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Plenty of sunshine should mean a great camping weekend. You might even need a bit of sunscreen. 🙂 I have not heard any complaints on the weekend forecast…nor should we expect any.
Unusually quiet weather for early May. I suspect we won’t have any complaints on that front, as well.
The severe weather risk through Wednesday appears to be zero. I will have to keep an eye on the extended part of the forecast as storm chances increase.

Wild card in this forecast – will someone top 80 degrees on Saturday or Sunday? That is the wild card! It appears a few spots may reach 80 degrees. A nice weekend on tap for the region. Let’s kick off May with some warm temperatures and a lot of sunshine.
Can we expect severe thunderstorms over the next 24 to 48 hours? Remember that a severe thunderstorm is defined as a thunderstorm that produces 58 mph winds or higher, quarter size hail or larger, and/or a tornado.

How much precipitation should we expect over the next few days?
No significant precipitation over the region through the weekend.
This section of the blog is speculative forecast information. Because it is past the range of what meteorologists can forecast accurately, it should be considered speculation. Anything past day 5 is considered a long range forecast.
Highlights:
1. Warm weather will continue for the next 7 days!
2. A chance for a few showers and thunderstorms…mainly from around Wednesday or Thursday onward.
I am watching a cold front that will approach our region around next Thursday into next weekend. If this does occur then shower and thunderstorm chances will be on the increase. Locally heavy rain may also occur if this all comes together as the charts are indicating.
The GFS is showing a few showers in the region on Tuesday afternoon and night. Then more towards next Thursday-Saturday.
Here is the GFS model’s precipitation map from weatherbell.com This is for Tuesday evening. Some green in our region. That indicates a chance for scattered showers and storms. I will take a closer look at this over the weekend.
The good news is that from now until then we will have some nice days. Dry and warm. Only slight chances for a popup storm here and there on Tuesday or Wednesday. Overall…dry weather. A nice break from our recent wet spells.
Temperatures Monday through next Thursday will rise into the 70’s and even some lower 80’s during the afternoon hours. Morning temperatures will mostly be in the 50’s and 60’s. A nice change from our recent 30’s and 40’s. Spring may have finally blossomed.

That usually fixes the problem. Occasionally we do have a radar go down. That is why I have duplicates. Thus, if one fails then try another one.

I have studied weather in our region since the late 1970’s. I have 37 years of experience in observing our regions weather patterns. My degree is in Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University and an Associate of Science (AS). I am currently working on my Bachelor’s Degree in Geoscience. Just need to finish two Spanish classes!
I am a member of the American Meteorological Society. I am a NOAA Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador. And, I am the Meteorologist for McCracken County Emergency Management.

There is a lot of noise on the internet. A lot of weather maps are posted without explanation. Over time you should learn who to trust for your weather information.
My forecast philosophy is simple and straight forward.
- Communicate in simple terms
- To be as accurate as possible within a reasonable time frame before an event
- Interact with you on Twitter, Facebook, and the blog
- Minimize the “hype” that you might see on television or through other weather sources
- Push you towards utilizing wall-to-wall LOCAL TV coverage during severe weather events
I am a recipient of the Mark Trail Award, WPSD Six Who Make A Difference Award, Kentucky Colonel, and the Caesar J. Fiamma” Award from the American Red Cross. In 2009 I was presented with the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety Award. I was recognized by the Kentucky House of Representatives for my service to the State of Kentucky leading up to several winter storms and severe weather outbreaks.
