Today through March 23rd: A few storms could be intense Friday. Dew points are low. CAPE (energy for storms to tap into) is low. The Storm Prediction Center has outlined our region in a level one severe weather risk. One is the lowest risk. They believe a few storms could become severe. I will monitor it. The primary concern will be high wind gusts and lightning.

Forecast Discussion
Calm weather today for the region.
A southern storm system is attempting to brush some of our counties near the Kentucky/Tennessee State line with a few showers. That is mostly east of LBL. That concern will only be for a few hours this morning. Sprinkles or a light shower, at most.
Otherwise, clouds will linger a bit longer today over Kentucky and Tennessee with increasing chances of sunshine as you move further west in the region.
You can see those clouds on this animation. Blue represents clouds. Stubborn clouds.
Here is the temperatures today. Notice it is cooler where clouds linger.
It will be mild today, especially in areas with more sunshine. Spring-line temperatures.
Dry weather tonight into Thursday afternoon.
Thursday will be mild. Occasionally, we will have some gusty winds.
Our next storm system approaches the region Thursday night and pushes across the region Friday.
Models have not been in agreement when it comes to the track of the area of low pressure.
As you may know, the further north the low tracks the greater our risk of thunderstorms.
The GFS model has consistently tracked the low well to our north. The EC model has shown it passing to our south.
Passing to our south could keep the severe weather risk along the Gulf of Mexico.
Over the past 24 hours models have started to show a trend. The GFS has trended south with the low. The EC has trended north with the low.
Often times, model guidance will merge on a solution as we draw closer to the event.
That would take the low over our local area. Perhaps across eastern Missouri and southern Illinois.
Here is the latest GFS. The red L is the area of low pressure. It shows it tracking north of St Louis.
The EC model shows the low passing south of St Louis.
Small differences, but perhaps enough to cause a lower than usual confidence when it comes to the thunderstorm portion of the forecast.
As it stands we will have some CAPE (energy for storms to tap into) across our region. Not much, but some.
If we were to have severe weather, then it would likely be Friday late morning into the afternoon hours. I am just not sure, at this point, whether we will have enough instability to produce severe thunderstorms. A low-end risk. Monitor updates, as always.
We will have intervals of showers and thunderstorms Friday. It won’t rain all day. The precipitation will come in a couple of waves. Don’t be surprised if there are some pockets of sunshine, as well.
The system will pull off to the east Friday night. A few showers may linger into Friday night.
Right now, Saturday looks like a mixed bag of weather. Intervals of clouds and sun. Perhaps a light sprinkle near the IL/IN State line. If we have more clouds then you can knock several degrees of the thermometer.
Gusty winds will mean cool temperatures, as well.
Warmer temperatures Sunday and Monday.
I am watching another system Monday night into Tuesday with additional shower and thunderstorm chances.
