A severe thunderstorm is defined as a storm that produces quarter size hail or larger, 58 mph winds or greater, and/or a tornado.  That is the official National Weather Service definition of a severe thunderstorm.

Sunday night through Monday:  Thunderstorms could produce locally heavy rain, gusty winds, dime size hail, and frequent cloud to ground lightning.  Organized severe weather is unlikely.  An isolated severe thunderstorm warning is possible.

Monday night through Sunday:  Severe weather is not anticipated.

Weather Analysis for the coming week:

Interactive Weather Radar Page.  Choose the city nearest your location:  Click this link

A cold front will push through the region on Monday and Monday evening.  This front will bring an end to the warm and muggy air-mass.  It will also squash thunderstorm chances to our south and east.

We still have Sunday night and Monday with shower and thunderstorm chances.  Expect quite a few to dot the radar.  Storms, in this moist atmosphere, could produce one to two inches of rain per hour, gusty winds, dime size hail, and cloud to ground lightning.

Dry weather is likely Monday night through at least Thursday night and perhaps longer.

There is some debate about rain shower chances as we push into Saturday and Sunday.  For now, the chances appear to be less than 20%.  With that said, confidence is not all that great.  Monitor updates moving forward.

Farmers should be able to accomplish quite a bit of work this week.  Enjoy the dry spell (we have earned it).

Temperatures Tuesday through Friday will likely range from 76 to 84 degrees.  Low humidity levels.  It will feel nice during the day and at night.  Great camping weather.

A more active precipitation pattern may develop next week and the week after.  Not sure if the main storm track will be to our north or centered closer to our local area.  Still some time to monitor updates.

Can you believe summer is here?

Enjoy the week!

We have regional radars and local city radars – if a radar does not update then try another one. Occasional browsers need their cache cleared. You may also try restarting your browser. That usually fixes the problem. Occasionally we do have a radar go down. That is why I have duplicates. Thus, if one fails then try another one.

During the winter you can track snow and ice by clicking the winterize button on the local city view interactive radars.

There is a lot of noise on the internet.  A lot of weather maps are posted without explanation.  Over time you should learn who to trust for your weather information.

My forecast philosophy is simple and straight forward.

  • Communicate in simple terms
  • To be as accurate as possible within a reasonable time frame before an event
  • Interact with you on Twitter, Facebook, email, texts, and this blog
  • Minimize the “hype” that you might see on some television stations or through other weather sources
  • Push you towards utilizing wall-to-wall LOCAL TV coverage during severe weather events
