Today through August 2nd:  Thunderstorms over the coming days could produce locally heavy rain, lightning, and gusty wind.  A low end threat of wind damage.

Today’s outlook (below).

Light green is where thunderstorms may occur but should be below severe levels.

Dark green is a level one risk. Yellow is a level two risk. Orange is a level three (enhanced) risk. Red is a level four (moderate) risk. Pink is a level five (high) risk.

One is the lowest risk. Five is the highest risk.

A severe storm is one that produces 58 mph wind or higher, quarter size hail, and/or a tornado.

The tan states are simply a region that SPC outlined on this particular map.  Just ignore that.

The black outline is our local area.

Weather advice:

Updated July 29, 2020

The main concern will be slow moving thunderstorms over the coming days.  Flash flooding is the concern.  Avoid flooded roadways.

Weather Discussion

    1.   Scattered showers and locally heavy thunderstorms.
    2.   Cooler next week.

.

Good day, everyone.

Another day with flash flooding potential.

We had two rounds of storms Thursday.  One in the morning.  One in the afternoon and into the night.

Some of you picked up 1 to 3 inches of rain.  Others picked up no rain at all.

That is just the nature of this pattern.  I know we have high percentage probabilities.  Keep in mind, just because there is a 70% chance of thunderstorms that does not mean everyone will receive rain.

This has been a multi day rain event.  It will continue through today and into Saturday.

We will see how all the rain totals shake out after that.  It is difficult this time of the year to see uniform rain amounts.

That is more common in the fall and winter months.  Summer is spotty.  As most of you know.

So, I know some of you still need rain.  Let’s see how the next 48 hours go.

Some of the rain today will come down in buckets.  Same as recent weeks.  One to three inches of rain in less than an hour.

As a matter of fact, some of you have picked up an inch of rain in less than ten minutes.  Same today.

High PWAT values equal heavy rain.

Plan on scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms Saturday.

The rain chances will begin to diminish Saturday night and Sunday.  We will drop to 30% or less.  So, some storms are still likely but coverage will decrease.

Great news on temperatures.  Much nicer weather is on the way.  Numerous days with upper 70s and lower 80s next week.  Overnight lows in the 50s and 60s.  Can’t beat that during August.

A few scattered thunderstorms are possible Monday and Tuesday.  Chances decrease Wednesday through Friday.  That is the going forecast.

Enjoy the cooler temperatures.

Avoid flooded roadways.

Again, as a reminder, these are models. They are never 100% accurate. Take the general idea from them.

What should I take from these?

  1. The general idea and not specifics. Models usually do well with the generalities.
  2. The time-stamp is located in the upper left corner.

.

What am I looking at?
You are looking at different models.  Meteorologists use many different models to forecast the weather.  All models are wrong.  Some are more wrong than others.  Meteorologists have to make a forecast based on the guidance/models.

I show you these so you can see what the different models are showing as far as precipitation.  If most of the models agree, then the confidence in the final weather forecast increases.
