Forecast discussion.

  •   Not as hot.  Not as muggy.
  •   Calm weather through Saturday.
  •   Watching another front next Sunday and Monday.

.

Good morning, everyone.

Well, yesterday’s forecast from 7 am to 4 pm did not pan out as expected.  I expected numerous showers and thunderstorms.  A warm layer of air aloft (a CAP) kept them from forming.  So, it ended up mostly dry.

We had to wait until after 4 pm for thunderstorms to form over southeast Missouri.   Overnight, those spread eastward.  Some areas picked up no rain.  Some areas picked up one to two+ inches of rain.

There was one severe thunderstorm in southeast Missouri.   About what was expected (we were in a low risk for severe storms).

This is what radar looked like at midnight.  Numerous showers and thunderstorms pushed across the region.

The good news is that the cold front is moving through the region this morning.  This will bring the showers and storms to an end.

There were still a few showers on radar (as of 6 am).  The showers will continue to move east southeast.  With time, all the showers will come to an end.

Calm weather is anticipated tonight through Saturday night.

Temperatures today through Thursday will be warm, but not as hot as last week.  It will be somewhat humid, but not as humid as last week.  That is the good news.

Let’s look at dew points.

Dew point is a measure of moisture.  The higher the dew point, the muggier it feels.  Dew points in the seventies and eighties are oppressive.  Muggy.

Dew points in the fifties and sixties feel nicer.

Yesterday’s dew points.  Muggy!  Air you wear.

Compare that to today’s dew points.  Better!

.

Temperatures will mostly range from 85 to 90 degrees today through Thursday.

Temperatures are expected to rise by Friday and Saturday, returning to the nineties.  Heat index values will rise into the 98- to 104-degree range.  It will become hot and muggy again.

A cold front is expected to push into the region by Sunday and Monday.  This will bring a return to the daily shower and thunderstorm chances.  At this time, there remain questions on the strength of the front and timing.

The front may stall in the region.  If that happens, then we will have daily chances of showers and thunderstorms into much of next week.  Since this is in the long range, there remain questions about where it stalls.  The placement will be key to thunderstorm chances.

For now, let’s enjoy the calm weather!

Have a great Tuesday.
