Today through July 4th: Thunderstorms are possible today. A few could produce high wind gusts and torrential downpours. Lightning, as well.

Weather advice:
Locally heavy rain will be possible today. A few storms could produce strong wind gusts and frequent lightning. Move indoors if thunderstorms threaten.
Discussion
Our much anticipated cold front is now pushing southward into the region.
This front will finally bring widespread showers and thunderstorms to the local area. Some of these storms will produce torrential downpours. An inch of rain could fall in less than 15 minutes. That happened at numerous locations Wednesday afternoon and evening.
I can’t completely rule out a severe thunderstorm. That would be the exception rather than the rule.
The storms will push out of the region tonight and that should leave Friday dry. That will last into the weekend!
Saturday and Sunday will be dry and cooler. It is forecast to be a nice holiday weekend. There might be some afternoon clouds from time to time as the surface heats and cold air aloft moves in. That can produce clouds.
Monday should be dry, as well.
I am watching Tuesday for an increase in temperatures and dew points. That may lead to some showers and thunderstorms.
