Light green is where thunderstorms may occur but should be below severe levels.
Dark green is a level one risk. Yellow is a level two risk. Orange is a level three (enhanced) risk. Red is a level four (moderate) risk. Pink is a level five (high) risk.
One is the lowest risk. Five is the highest risk.
A severe storm is one that produces 58 mph wind or higher, quarter size hail, and/or a tornado.
The tan states are simply a region that SPC outlined on this particular map. Just ignore that.

Weather Discussion
-
- Dry Monday through Wednesday morning.
- Light rain event Wednesday night into Thursday.
- Watching closely the weekend into next week. Perhaps some cold shots and maybe a wintry mix. Lower confidence in the long-range.
Rain fell over the weekend. Mainly Saturday into Saturday night. A few remaining showers dotted radar Sunday.
Colder air is moving in from the north.
A major winter storm struck central and northern Illinois where 5 to 10″+ of snow fell. Icy roadways to our north.
This is the second winter storm in a week. Once again, we were on the warm side of the system.
Some light rain and snow showers are possible into Sunday night. Tapering as we move through the night into Monday morning.
Some lingering clouds Monday. Cool.
Dry Tuesday into most of Wednesday. No extremes.
A fast moving system will bring a chance of rain and snow showers Wednesday night into Thursday night. At this time, it does not appear that this event will cause any travel concerns.
The bulk of the precipitation may hold off until Thursday. Rain totals of 0.00″ to 0.25″. Little or snow snow accumulation. As always, monitor updates.
Colder air sinks into the region Friday into the weekend.
Several disturbances will push across the region over the weekend into early next week.
Models are not in agreement on how to handle these events.
I have watched extreme changes from the GFS and EC model.
At one point, the GFS showed an ice and snow storm Friday night into Sunday. Meanwhile, the EC model showers rain and perhaps snow showers.
Then, at other times, the models would completely flip.
At this time, there is no confidence in the Friday through Tuesday portion of the forecast. Monitor updates.
Both models do show much colder air as we move into the weekend and next week. The colder air of the season is anticipated.
Whether we have a winter storm is the million dollar question. I will be closely watching model runs and trends over the coming days.
Stay tuned!

Again, as a reminder, these are models. They are never 100% accurate. Take the general idea from them.
What should I take from these?
- The general idea and not specifics. Models usually do well with the generalities.
- The time-stamp is located in the upper left corner.
- The EC European weather model is in Zulu time.
.
What am I looking at?
You are looking at different models. Meteorologists use many different models to forecast the weather. All models are wrong. Some are more wrong than others. Meteorologists have to make a forecast based on the guidance/models.
I show you these so you can see what the different models are showing as far as precipitation. If most of the models agree, then the confidence in the final weather forecast increases.
You can see my final forecast at the top of the page.
