A frontal passage with very limited production of light rain moves through the forecast area today. Lingering sprinkles are possible through the evening hours. Dry weather is expected Wednesday to Friday night. Models track a storm system generally south of the Quad State and differ as to how much rainfall potential there is for the weekend locally. Temperatures warm to well above normal for the end of the week and weekend.

A Haines Index of 6 means a high potential for an existing fire to become large or exhibit erratic fire behavior, 5 means medium potential, 4 means low potential, and anything less than 4 means very low potential.

Weather Highlights

    1.    A few showers today.
    2.    Dry Wednesday through Friday.
    3.    Watching rain chances Saturday night into Monday.
    4.    Backdoor cold front Saturday night into Monday.

Weather advice:

Make sure you have three to five ways of receiving your severe weather information.

Forecast Discussion

Well, a few of you had snow showers Monday morning.  Mainly far northwest Kentucky.  There was even a light dusting on the grass in some spots.  I did have a report from Daviess County of a light dusting.  There were no impacts, because temperatures were above freezing.

I did not have snow in the forecast.   I thought it would stay a county or two farther northeast.  My error.  Thankfully, there were no impacts since it was above freezing.   No harm.

We will have some light showers in the region Tuesday.  The rain could mix with snow early in the morning.  No impacts.  It will be above freezing.

The chance of precipitation is higher over southeast Illinois and northwest Kentucky.  The chance is lower as you move southwest in the region.

Clouds will be around through tomorrow night.

Dry conditions Wednesday through Friday.  Calm weather.  No concerns.  Some clouds Thursday night.

I continue to struggle with the weekend forecast.

The weekend system is all over the place in the data.  Wild swings from run to run.

I did include shower chances in the weekend forecast.  For now, I capped those at 30%.  I need to closely monitor it.   It is possible that the system is far enough northeast that we do have some chance of rain or rain and snow mixed.

I have decreased rain chances for Saturday.  They will be higher as we move into Sunday/Monday.

At this time, wintry precipitation appears unlikely.

I continue to watch a system around the 12th of February.  GFS shows it.
