Today through January 28th: Severe weather is not anticipated.
.
.
Today’s outlook (below).
Light green is where thunderstorms may occur but should be below severe levels.
Dark green is a level one risk. Yellow is a level two risk. Orange is a level three (enhanced) risk. Red is a level four (moderate) risk. Pink is a level five (high) risk.
One is the lowest risk. Five is the highest risk.
A severe storm is one that produces 58 mph wind or higher, quarter size hail, and/or a tornado.
The tan states are simply a region that SPC outlined on this particular map. Just ignore that.
The black outline is our local area.

Weather Discussion
-
- Arctic cold front sweeps through the region today.
- Rain may end as a wintry mix Wednesday afternoon and evening.
- Bitterly cold air Wednesday night into Friday.
- Dry and cold Saturday into Monday.
Weather advice:
Make sure you are using the Beau Dodson Weather Talk app and not text messages. We can’t rely on Verizon and ATT to send out the text messages in a timely manner. Thus, we made the app. See links at the bottom of the page.

Weather Discussion
The big weather story today is going to be an arctic cold front that sweeps across the region from north to south. Temperatures will rapidly fall behind the cold front.
You can see that on the Hrrr model. This is the temperature forecast.
There will be quite a bit of lift ahead and behind the front. This will help trigger widespread showers and possibly even a rumble of thunder. As the colder air arrives, the rain will mix with and change to freezing rain, sleet, and snow. Some light accumulation is possible.
You can see that happening on the Hrrr model guidance. Green is rain. Blue is snow. Purple and red are a wintry mix.
The bigger concern will be moisture on roadways as temperatures rapidly fall into the teens and twenties. Moisture could freeze and cause black ice.
Any wintry mix would increase the risk of icy roadways late Wednesday afternoon and especially Wednesday night and Thursday. Use care if you have travel plans.
Models do not show much in the way of snow and ice accumulation. Just a little. Enough to cause some icy roadways in some areas.
I would prefer you focus on the impact portion of the forecast and not totals. The impact will be black ice and icy patches on area roadways.
Bitterly cold air will settle into the region Wednesday night. Lows by Thursday morning will drop into the upper single digits north to lower and middle teens south.
The cold air will stick around into the weekend with dry conditions.
I am monitoring next Tuesday for a chance of rain or a mix. Guidance is not in agreement on the subject, yet. I entered a low-end probability for now.

Again, as a reminder, these are models. They are never 100% accurate. Take the general idea from them.
What should I take from these?
- The general idea and not specifics. Models usually do well with the generalities.
- The time-stamp is located in the upper left corner.
- The EC European weather model is in Zulu time.
.
What am I looking at?
You are looking at different models. Meteorologists use many different models to forecast the weather. All models are wrong. Some are more wrong than others. Meteorologists have to make a forecast based on the guidance/models.
I show you these so you can see what the different models are showing as far as precipitation. If most of the models agree, then the confidence in the final weather forecast increases.
You can see my final forecast at the top of the page.
