Today’s outlook (below).
Light green is where thunderstorms may occur but should be below severe levels.
Dark green is a level one risk. Yellow is a level two risk. Orange is a level three (enhanced) risk. Red is a level four (moderate) risk. Pink is a level five (high) risk.
One is the lowest risk. Five is the highest risk.
A severe storm is one that produces 58 mph wind or higher, quarter size hail, and/or a tornado.
The tan states are simply a region that SPC outlined on this particular map. Just ignore that.
The black outline is our local area.

- Winter storm.
- Weekend travel problems are possible.
Weather advice:
Make sure you are using the Beau Dodson Weather Talk app and not text messages. We can’t rely on Verizon and ATT to send out the text messages in a timely manner. Thus, we made the app. See links at the bottom of the page.

Weather Discussion
A complex weather forecast for the weekend.
The main weather story is a developing winter storm that may take aim at our region Friday into Sunday.
Most of the model guidance is pointing towards a mixture of rain, freezing rain, sleet, and snow. The bulk of which falls late Friday night into Saturday evening.
This is a fairly slow moving storm system and it is possible that some areas receive precipitation for up to 24 hours.
The system in question remains off the West Coast. It has not been fully sampled by the models. Until it is fully sample, confidence will be on the low side as to the finer details of this event.
It does appear that some wintry precipitation is likely going to impact our region this weekend.
All of the models are showing accumulating precipitation in our region. There are differences, however, in the amounts and placement of the different types of precipitation.
This winter storm may have all precipitation types depending on your location in the region.
Some models even show a period of rain across the Missouri Bootheel and along the Kentucky/Tennessee border counties.
Overall confidence that there will be a winter storm is medium. Confidence in the finer details remains low.
The computer models should fully sample this system by Thursday afternoon. At that point, I will have more confidence in the models.
Plan on wintry precipitation Friday night into at least Saturday afternoon.
If you have travel plans then you will want to monitor the latest updates concerning this potential winter storm.

Again, as a reminder, these are models. They are never 100% accurate. Take the general idea from them.
What should I take from these?
- The general idea and not specifics. Models usually do well with the generalities.
- The time-stamp is located in the upper left corner.
- The EC European weather model is in Zulu time.
.
What am I looking at?
You are looking at different models. Meteorologists use many different models to forecast the weather. All models are wrong. Some are more wrong than others. Meteorologists have to make a forecast based on the guidance/models.
I show you these so you can see what the different models are showing as far as precipitation. If most of the models agree, then the confidence in the final weather forecast increases.
You can see my final forecast at the top of the page.
