Today through July 31st: I am monitoring next week. Thunderstorms are possible. Summer thunderstorms can produce damaging wind gusts. Monitor updates.
.
.
Today’s outlook (below).
Light green is where thunderstorms may occur but should be below severe levels.
Dark green is a level one risk. Yellow is a level two risk. Orange is a level three (enhanced) risk. Red is a level four (moderate) risk. Pink is a level five (high) risk.
One is the lowest risk. Five is the highest risk.
A severe storm is one that produces 58 mph wind or higher, quarter size hail, and/or a tornado.
The tan states are simply a region that SPC outlined on this particular map. Just ignore that.
The black outline is our local area.

Weather Discussion
Well, the hot weather returns today. Did it leave? Yesterday was nicer than the day before. Hey, one day breaks are better than nothing! We will take it.
Extreme temperatures today. Highs well into the 90s with heat index values of 105 to 115 degrees. Once again, use care.
Same for Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures will range from 95 to 100 degrees. Heat index values of 105 to 120 degrees. Ick weather. Air you wear.
Dew points will be in the 70s to locally 80 degrees. Dew point is what makes it feel miserable outside. That is the heaviness you feel when you walk outside.
Several cold fronts will push into the region next week. This will provide the opportunity for showers and thunderstorms to develop.
The biggest question will be the exact placement of the front each day. Then, the placement of the highest shower and thunderstorm chances.
Temperatures will vary, as well.
Over the past two months, the northern half of the region has received move rain than the southern half of the region.
That could happen again next week. Let’s hope not, but it is something that I am monitoring. For some farmers, it is too late and crops are being plowed under.
We will have on and off rain chances beginning Sunday night and lasting into Thursday. Beyond Thursday, uncertainty is too great to include rain chances.
It won’t be raining all of the time. Periodic disturbances will push along the cold front. This will trigger showers and thunderstorms. Thunderstorm complexes are likely. MCS’s.
As you know, summer complexes can produce very heavy rain totals of one to four inches. They can produce occasional severe weather, as well. This will need to be monitored.
Isolated flash flooding will be possible if storms train over the same areas.
I would not be surprised if we had multiple days with level one and two severe weather risks. Lower-end risks. The primary concern would be damaging wind gusts.
Rain totals will vary GREATLY. Same as recent weeks. Some locations between Sunday night and Thursday night could pick up several inches of rain. Some unlucky locations may receive less than 0.50″. I will be rooting for everyone.

Weather advice:
Extreme heat this week.
It isn’t often I use the word deadly. With that said, over the last few weeks, several of our area residents have died from heat stroke. We don’t even have tornado deaths every year. So it is important to remember that heat is our number one weather killer.
The Paducah, KY, NWS has a web page related to heat safety. Some of the signs of heat related illness might surprise you. https://www.weather.gov/safety/heat
Thus, this is a reminder to use care. Take breaks. Hydrate. Avoid the hottest portion of the days.
Elderly residents are trying (like everyone) to save on excessive air condition bills. They may be less likely to use their air condition. Check on elderly residents and the young.
Make sure you are using the Beau Dodson Weather Talk app and not text messages. We can’t rely on Verizon and ATT to send out the text messages in a timely manner. Thus, we made the app. See links at the bottom of the page.

Again, as a reminder, these are models. They are never 100% accurate. Take the general idea from them.
What should I take from these?
- The general idea and not specifics. Models usually do well with the generalities.
- The time-stamp is located in the upper left corner.
.
What am I looking at?
You are looking at different models. Meteorologists use many different models to forecast the weather. All models are wrong. Some are more wrong than others. Meteorologists have to make a forecast based on the guidance/models.
I show you these so you can see what the different models are showing as far as precipitation. If most of the models agree, then the confidence in the final weather forecast increases.
You can see my final forecast at the top of the page.
