February 11, 2018: Brief wintry mix tonight.

** A brief period of freezing rain, sleet, and snow possible tonight **

A fast moving band of freezing rain, sleet, and perhaps snow will push across portions of the region tonight.

It appears the precipitation will be brief at any given location.

The greatest area if concern is from Henderson, KY, to Calvert City, KY, to Fulton, KY.  Along and east of that line stands the greatest chance of receiving precipitation.

Confidence in measurable precipitation occurring west of that line is lower. That means don’t discount the possibility of some precipitation to the west of that line. It is possible that areas to the west also see a brief period of wintry precipitation.  It only takes a little bit of ice to cause problems.

Surfaces are cold. If freezing rain, sleet, and snow does develop then it would most likely cause icy surfaces such as sidewalks, stairs, and porches. Bridges, of course, freeze first. Untreated roads could be a concern.

.

.

.

Black ice is possible tonight and into the early morning hours.

The main time frame of concern will be 5 PM through 1 AM.  The precipitation won’t last long at any given spot.

Here are your live local-city view radars. Don’t forget to click the winterize button above each city radar (example in the image below). That button separates the freezing rain, sleet, snow, and rain.

Here is an example from one of the radars.  Push that button that says winterize.

Sunday night:  Another round of freezing drizzle and freezing rain will move into our area from Arkansas.  It will spread northeast and then move eastward.  The greatest chance of measurable precipitation will be across the  Missouri Bootheel into northwest Tennessee and western Kentucky.  Some accumulation of freezing rain, sleet, and snow will be possible.

This will be a quick moving system.  Accumulation totals will be light.

The main concern will be icy surfaces.  Sidewalks, stairs, and porches may become icy.  Untreated roads and bridges may become icy, as well.  Use care.
