Forecast discussion

  •   A warm week ahead of us.
  •   Scattered showers later today into Tuesday.  Lower chances on Tuesday night and Wednedsay.
  •   Rainfall totals will be light.  Ranging from none to 0.15″.  Not much.
  •   Near record warm temperatures from Wednesday into Friday.
  •   Record high overnight lows are likely this week.
  •   No significant storm systems through Friday.
  •   I am watching a cold front on Saturday/Saturday night.  Showers may accompany that front.  For now, the severe weather risk appears minimal.  I am monitoring it.

.

.

.

What is the primary weather concern?

No significant weather concerns.  That is the good news.  A warm holiday ahead of us.

Some showers are possible later today into Tuesday.  A few showers may linger into Wednesday over our far eastern counties.

I am watching another cold front on Saturday.

.

Here were the 6 AM temperatures.   A chilly start to the day.

.

Seven-day outlook graphic.

See the video or graphics below for more details specific to your county.  This is a broad-brush overview of the entire region.

.

Today  through Tuesday night

We will have increasing clouds today.  Spotty light showers/drizzle will develop this afternoon and evening.  See the rain probability maps below.

Satellite shows the clouds (6 AM).  Those clouds are moving eastward.

.

Showers will increase in coverage this evening/tonight.  This is a light rain event.

My far western and northern counties will receive little or no rainfall.

The highest precipitation coverage will stretch from the Missouri Bootheel into extreme southern Illinois, western Kentucky, and northwest Tennessee.

Let’s look at rain totals.  As you can see, mainly in the 0.00″ to 0.15″ range.

6 PM tonight to 6 AM tomorrow

6 AM Tuesday to 6 PM Tuesday

6 PM Tuesday to 6 AM Wednesday

.

Wednesday through Monday

A few showers may linger into Wednesday and perhaps even Chritmas Day.  Models are spitting out some light showers in the region.

Rain probabilities.  What is the % chance of rain?

6 AM Wednesday to 6 PM Wednesday

.

The big weather story will be the warmth from Wednesday through at least Friday.

Most of the area will likely fall just short of record high temperatures on Christmas.  The year 2021 might beat us.  Either way, it will be one of the top five warmest Christmases on record in our local area.

We could also break record highs on Friday.

We will likely shatter overnight low temperatures.  Meaning, this will be some of the warmest nights on record for this time of the year.  Quite amazing.

Let’s look at those temperatures.

Wednesday’s high temperatures

Wednesday night lows

Thursday’s high temperatures

Thursday night low

Friday’s high temperatures

Friday night lows

Saturday highs

Sunday high temperatures

A cold front will arrive on Saturday/Saturday night.  Thus, Sunday will be cooler.

.

Hopefully, you can enjoy the warm temperatures!

I am watching a stronger cold front on Saturday and Saturday night.

Showers and a few thunderstorms will accompany the front.  It is too soon to know if severe weather will be a concern.

I am monitoring it.

It will turn colder by Sunday and Monday of next week.  That would be behind the next cold front.

I use it myself. I encourage everyone to have 3 to 5 ways of receiving their severe weather information. All sources can fail, and the more sources you have, the better prepared you will be in the event of severe weather warnings.
.
WeatherCall will call your cell phone or home number if your home is under a tornado or severe thunderstorm warning.  It only calls you ifyour home is inside the warning box/polygon. If you are outside the warning box/polygon it will not disturb you.
Here is a video with more information and a demonstration of how it works.
