A severe thunderstorm is defined as a storm that produces quarter size hail or larger, 58 mph winds or greater, and/or a tornado. That is the official National Weather Service definition of a severe thunderstorm.
Monday night through Saturday: Severe weather is not anticipated. We will have on and off thunderstorm chances over the next seven days. Please see the local forecast at the top of the page.
I will keep an eye on Saturday night and Sunday for the potential of heavier rain and storms. Otherwise, the main concern this week will be lightning.
We have a mixed bag of weather over the next seven days. No extreme weather anticipated, that is the good news.
For August, this weeks weather is quite amazing. At or below normal temperatures through Saturday. Normal high temperatures are around 88 degrees and normal low temperatures are around 68 degrees. We should average below those numbers.
I am not tracking any prolonged heat waves. There have been some signals for heat towards the third or fourth week of the month. For now, however, we don’t have to worry about that.
Precipitation chances Monday night through Wednesday will be low. A couple of showers and thunderstorms will remain in the area Monday evening, but those will end with the sun setting and loss of heating.
Check radars if you have concerns.
Tuesday through Wednesday should be dry. Nice days for outdoor work. High temperatures in the lower to middle 80’s on both days.
A weak system brushes our region Wednesday night and Thursday. This should spark a few scattered thunderstorms, but widespread rain appears unlikely. I will monitor trends.
The main concern on Wednesday night into Thursday would be lightning.
We may see a few thunderstorms remaining in the area Thursday night and Friday morning, but confidence is low. This will depend on the speed of the system mentioned above.
Friday afternoon should be dry. Friday evening, as well. Again, I will monitor trends in the data. These weak disturbances don’t always present themselves all that well in the guidance.
A stronger storm system approaches our region by Saturday into Sunday night. This system should bring numerous showers and thunderstorms back into the forecast. The greatest coverage should arrive on Sunday. Still a bit early for exact details.
It is still too early for the eclipse forecast. Long range data will start to come into view next week. Fingers crossed.

We have regional radars and local city radars – if a radar does not update then try another one. Occasional browsers need their cache cleared. You may also try restarting your browser. That usually fixes the problem. Occasionally we do have a radar go down. That is why I have duplicates. Thus, if one fails then try another one.
