Wow! That is all I can say on this last rain event. What a crazy summer this has been. Parts of our region picked up around 18″ of rain since Friday night. Widespread 1″-3″ with a large band of 3″-6″ and then swaths of 6″-12″. Isolated spots went above 12″ of rain.
The highest totals were over southeast Missouri and southern Illinois. The lower totals were over western Kentucky and western Tennessee. Parts of western Kentucky and Tennessee did receive more than three inches of rain.

This rain event is finally starting to wind down. It is not quite over, yet. It is close to being over. A few heavy storms are still possible on Wednesday.
The cold front that stalled over the region will slowly wash out over the coming days. Weaken and dissipate, in other words.
We will have at least a few scattered showers and thunderstorms over the coming days.
Coverage of rain and storms will increase for the weekend. A strong cold front will move into and through the region Saturday or Sunday. This front might be accompanied by strong thunderstorms. Still a bit early to know for sure.
One thing is for sure, it will deliver more showers and locally heavy storms.
The good news is that much cooler air will filter into the region for the new work week. We might even have overnight lows dipping into the 50’s by Monday and Tuesday. We can hope!

That usually fixes the problem. Occasionally we do have a radar go down. That is why I have duplicates. Thus, if one fails then try another one.

Can we expect severe thunderstorms over the next 24 to 48 hours? Remember that a severe thunderstorm is defined as a thunderstorm that produces 58 mph winds or higher, quarter size hail or larger, and/or a tornado.

- Minimize the “hype” that you might see on television or through other weather sources
- Push you towards utilizing wall-to-wall LOCAL TV coverage during severe weather events
