Today through May 5th. A few intense storms are possible today with high wind. Another chance of thunderstorms Sunday through Wednesday. Some storms could be severe. Monitor updates.
The SEVERE WEATHER BLOG has been activated for the threat of heavy rain and potentially a couple of severe thunderstorm warnings.

Today’s outlook (below).
Light green is where thunderstorms may occur but should be below severe levels.
Dark green is a level one risk. Yellow is a level two risk. Orange is a level three (enhanced) risk. Red is a level four (moderate) risk. Pink is a level five (high) risk.
One is the lowest risk. Five is the highest risk.
A severe storm is one that produces 58 mph wind or higher, quarter size hail, and/or a tornado.
The tan states are simply a region that SPC outlined on this particular map. Just ignore that.
The black outline is our local area.

I updated all of the graphics.
The SEVERE WEATHER BLOG has been activated for the threat of heavy rain and potentially a couple of severe thunderstorm warnings.

Flash flood watch. More counties may be added.
.
PWAT values will be high for an extended period of time. This is a locally heavy rain signal.
The 7 AM PWAT value chart shows high numbers over our region.
It is rare to have PWAT values this high in late April. Near record values.
.
It was a long day yesterday and last night. I will keep it brief today.
Rain and thunderstorms will taper from west to east this morning. Rain will linger long over southeast Illinois, western Kentucky, and northwest Tennessee.
Some new development is possible by late morning into the afternoon. Locally heavy rain will continue to be a concern. Some storms could produce high wind, as well. The tornado risk is again low.
There was a tornado last night in Henry County, Tennessee.
Here were the app messages that I sent out. The rapid-fire tornado messages are always helpful.
.
There was a tornado that caused damage. Here are some photos.
There was a strong radar signature for a tornado. You can see the hook echo from Henry County, Tennessee.
.
Rain totals have been extreme across portions of the region. A widespread one to three inch rain event has occurred. Some locations, however, received less than a half-inch of rain. The forecast was for several bands of very heavy rain and then lower totals in some counties. That is what happened.
Here are the 7 AM rain totals (still raining over much of the region).
.
Avoid flooded roadways.
There is a low-end risk of severe thunderstorms today. The primary concern will be high winds. A low tornado threat.
We will need to monitor this afternoon in case storms refire along the incoming cold front. That is a possibility.

Again, as a reminder, these are models. They are never 100% accurate. Take the general idea from them.
What should I take from these?
- The general idea and not specifics. Models usually do well with the generalities.
- The time-stamp is located in the upper left corner.
- The EC European weather model is in Zulu time.
.
What am I looking at?
You are looking at different models. Meteorologists use many different models to forecast the weather. All models are wrong. Some are more wrong than others. Meteorologists have to make a forecast based on the guidance/models.
I show you these so you can see what the different models are showing as far as precipitation. If most of the models agree, then the confidence in the final weather forecast increases.
You can see my final forecast at the top of the page.
