Forecast Discussion
The NWS confirmed at least one tornado in southern Illinois (Wednesday’s event).
Storm reports from Wednesday’s severe weather outbreak. Red dots are tornadoes. Blue represents wind reports.
It appears March may have set a new record for number of tornadoes (for March). Records go back to 1950.
Of course, December was insane. Numerous tornadoes.

Good day, everyone. WELCOME TO APRIL! Warm air surely can’t be far off. I know we have all been patiently waiting.
Unfortunately, we are not finished with cool temperatures.
We will have a mix of sun and clouds today. Some of us are waking up to sunshine. Other locations have some lingering clouds.
As we move through the day, most areas should see sunshine. That is the good news.
It won’t be all that warm. Highs today will mostly be in the 50s. Light winds today.
It will be cold again tonight. Lows will mostly be in the 30s. I can’t rule out some frost.
Clouds will thicken late tonight. Moving in from the southwest and west. This will be in response to a weak cold front that will move across the region tomorrow.
This front will bring a few light showers to the area. Mostly late tonight into tomorrow morning. Ending west to east. Rain totals will range from 0.00″ to 0.10″. This is a light rain event and some locations will receive no measurable rain.
If you have outdoor plans Saturday, then plan on a few showers, gusty winds, and cool temperatures. Not the best day.
Dry conditions are expected Saturday night through most of Sunday night.
It will be a bit warmer Sunday.
A series of cold fronts and upper level lows will push across the region next week. This will make for an unsettled week of weather.
Expect on and off shower and thunderstorm chances Monday through Thursday.
Peak rain chances appear to be Monday night into Tuesday.
There are questions about Wednesday and Thursday’s rain chances. Some of the guidance is dry. Other guidance shows the upper level low spinning in and near our region. For now, I have low-end precipitation probabilities. That could change. Keep that in mind if you have outdoor activities next week.
Rain totals from Monday through Thursday will likely range from 0.6″ to 1.2″. Again, part of that will depend on what happens Wednesday and Thursday.
Severe weather next week?
At this time, the parameters for severe weather appear minimal. The risk of severe weather is higher to our south.
I am closely monitoring it. It does not take much, during the Month of April, for the atmosphere to produce severe weather. Thus, I will be monitoring it closely.
