Weather Highlights

    1.   Patchy drizzle this morning.  Some clearing as we move through the day.
    2.   Scattered showers Saturday.
    3.   Cooler than average temperatures to continue.

Weather advice:

As we prepare for spring, let’s make sure you have three to five ways of receiving your severe weather information.

.

Forecast Discussion

Widespread showers and thunderstorms spread across the region yesterday and last night.  Rain totals were a bit less than expected, because of a cluster of storms along the Gulf of Mexico and the area of low pressure did not close off.  This reduced rain intensity.  Many areas picked up 0.30″ to 0.80″.

We do have clouds in the area this morning.  Some patchy drizzle, as well.

Here is the rainfall outlook for our next rain event.   Late tonight into Saturday.  A light event and some areas could miss out entirely.

Yet another cold front will move into the region Saturday.  As mentioned yesterday, this system is trending farther south and north.  It will basically split as it approaches our region.

That means higher rain chances north and south of our local area.  That leaves us in the middle with scattered showers.

If you have outdoor plans, then have a plan B in case of rain.  Then, monitor updates and radars.

Rain totals will be less than 0.25″ Saturday.  Some areas will receive little or no rainfall.

Gusty winds are likely Saturday into Monday.  Occasional gusts above 25 mph.

Sunday wind

Monday wind

Sunday through Thursday will be dry.  Cooler than average temperatures, as well.  That seems to be the current pattern theme that we find ourselves in.

I will keep an eye on Friday into the weekend.  Rain chances may return by Friday or Saturday.  Data is mixed on the speed of that particular system.

Some data brings rain in as early as Friday and other data holds it back until Saturday/Sunday.   I will be monitoring trends.

Still no organized severe weather threat.  That is the good news.

This outlook covers southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, western Kentucky, and far northwest Tennessee.

Today through April 18th:  A couple of the Saturday afternoon and night thunderstorms could produce damaging wind and hail.  The tornado risk is low, but not zero.  Mainly over Missouri for the tornado risk.  The line will weaken with time as it moves farther east.

.

Today’s Storm Prediction Center’s Severe Weather Outlook

Light green is where thunderstorms may occur but should be below severe levels.

Dark green is a level one risk. Yellow is a level two risk. Orange is a level three (enhanced) risk. Red is a level four (moderate) risk. Pink is a level five (high) risk.

One is the lowest risk. Five is the highest risk.

A severe storm is one that produces 58 mph wind or higher, quarter size hail, and/or a tornado.
