For the Wind Advisory, south winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. * WHERE...Portions of southern Illinois, western Kentucky and southeast Missouri. * WHEN...For the High Wind Warning, from 11 AM this morning to 6 PM CST this evening. For the Wind Advisory, from 6 PM this evening to 3 AM CST Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Some trees may be uprooted, numerous large tree limbs will likely be knocked down. A few power lines may be knocked down, but damage to powerlines is more likely through trees and limbs falling. Numerous power outages are possible. High-profile vehicles like semi-trucks may have significant difficulty traveling particularly on east-west roadways. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A High Wind Warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.

Today through February 18th: Severe thunderstorms are possible Wednesday night and Thursday. Some of the storms could produce nickel to half-dollar size hail, strong wind gusts, and there is a low end risk of a short-lived tornado.

An active weather day ahead of us. An active few days ahead.
We do have a windy day ahead of us. A deep area of low pressure has developed in the Central United States.
These are isobars. Equal lines of pressure.
See the low over southeast Colorado? Those tightly packed isobars are going to be responsible for strong and gusty winds today.
Occasional non-thunderstorm wind gusts of 35 to 45 mph are likely with pockets of 45 to 60 mph.
It is rare to have a high wind warning in our region. I believe this is only the second time or third time one has been issued since 2011 (when the product was made).

Zoomed in. There is the low in Iowa later today. Deep low. Bumping up against high pressure to our southeast. The end result will be high winds.
Peak wind will be late morning into the afternoon/evening hours.

Scattered to numerous showers will spread west to east across the region. I can’t rule out a clap of thunder, as well.
No severe weather today, thankfully.
The rain will arrive later this morning. There is already a few showers on the weather radars.
Rain totals today of a trace to 0.30″. Not much.
Calm weather returns after the winds subside tonight into tomorrow afternoon.
Wednesday will be very warm with WELL above average temperatures.

Temperatures by Thursday will drop below average.
There will be some wind damage today. Downed tree limbs, power lines, and trees are possible.
There will also be rain showers today moving west to east across the region. A clap of thunder possible. No severe thunderstorms today.
It will be very warm for February today through Thursday. Turning cooler behind a cold front Thursday.
Thunderstorms are likely Wednesday night into Thursday. Some of those storms could produce hail and high winds. A low-end tornado risk, as well.
The best chance of hail will be late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning. Some of the hail could exceed. the size of quarters.
Most of the unstable air Wednesday night will be in the mid-levels. That often times leads to hail.
Lower atmospheric unstable air can lead to wind damage and tornadoes.
Here is the lightning forecast from the EC model. This is Zulu time. 06z is midnight. 12z is 6 am.
Expect Wednesday to be dry and warm. Highs in the upper 60s to middle 70s.
Expect showers and thunderstorms to develop Wednesday evening into Thursday.
The storms will move in from Arkansas and Tennessee. Moving north northeast at 40 to 55 mph.
Those storms will produce pockets of heavy rain and lightning. A few of the storms will produce hail.
Hail up to the size of half dollars will be possible with this event. Mainly Wednesday night/Thursday morning.
A couple of the storms could also rotate and produce high winds and a short-lived tornado.
Similar to recent events, there are questions about the level of severe weather threat.
For now, the above is the going forecast.
The showers and thunderstorms will push eastward Thursday. Ending west to east.
We are in a risk of severe weather Thursday, as well. Mainly our eastern counties.
The threat of severe weather Thursday will include hail, high winds, and a short-lived tornado.

What am I looking at?
You are looking at different models. Meteorologists use many different models to forecast the weather. All models are wrong. Some are more wrong than others. Meteorologists have to make a forecast based on the guidance/models.
