This outlook covers southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, western Kentucky, and far northwest Tennessee.

Today through February 18th: Another area of low pressure will pass to our west northwest next Tuesday and Wednesday. I can’t rule out additional severe weather concerns. It is still early for certainties.

A severe storm is one that produces 58 mph wind or higher, quarter size hail, and/or a tornado.

Weather Discussion

Weather advice:

An area of low pressure brought heavy rain to portions of the region.

You can see that low on this weather map at 5 AM this morning.

Those black lines are isobars. Equal lines of barometric pressure. Rapidly rising and falling pressure creates gradient winds.

That is why it has been so windy.

And at 5:30 AM it was still deepening.

The last 24 hours deliver rain and mud to the region.

Much of the region received one to two inches of rain with pockets of two to four inches. Eastern counties did receive less, as was expected.

This was a big rain event no matter how you slice it. For at least a large chunk of the region.

Windy conditions this morning into the afternoon hours.

The Hrrr model shows that nicely. You can see how the winds subside later today.

Let’s look at today’s almanac for Cape Girardeau, Paducah, and Poplar Bluff.

Once again, we will be above average in the temp department. The story of the winter. We had two solid shots of cold air and winter. That was it.

Thankfully, our drought has ended.

Here is the last thirty days worth of rainfall. Quite a bit. This does not even include the latest round.

It has been a wet 30 days for much of the region.

As we move through today, winds will subside (as mentioned above).

I chose Paducah for the centrallly located spot to show you that on a graphic.

We should also have some decrease in clouds later today.

There will be a low-end chance of rain and rain/snow Friday and Friday evening. Don’t expect much. Less than 0.10″ precipitation and some areas may remain dry.

Our next weather system arrives next week. I am watching yet another area of low pressure Tuesday and Wednesday. This system could produce another round of locally heavy rain and storms.

It is too early to know if severe weather will be a concern. Stay tuned.

What am I looking at?
You are looking at different models. Meteorologists use many different models to forecast the weather. All models are wrong. Some are more wrong than others. Meteorologists have to make a forecast based on the guidance/models.

I show you these so you can see what the different models are showing as far as precipitation. If most of the models agree, then the confidence in the final weather forecast increases.
