Current Weather Discussion
The primary weather story, over the coming days, will be the well above average temperatures.
We do have some freezing fog in the area this morning. That is primarily over southeast Missouri.
This freezing fog will mix out this morning after sunrise. Watch bridges and overpasses/elevated surfaces. Some slick spots are likely.
Freezing fog forms moisture on surfaces. That moisture then freezes.

The next weather story will be the mid-week rain. We have been tracking this system for thirty days!
It is finally arriving. Rain will be the end result. Some lightning, as well.
The concern will be locally heavy rain. A widespread one to two inches of rain will likely develop in the region. This will cause some flooding concerns. Mainly overland flooding of fields. Some sharp rises on area creeks will likely occur, as well.
I can’t rule out some flooded roadways. Areas that commonly have issues will be the primary concern.

What is the probability of one or more inches of rain? Here is what the GFS model is showing.

The GFS is quite active and wet through the extended. It goes out two weeks.

This is the ensemble graphic. Ensembles are the same model rain over and over again with slightly different beginning variables.
The general idea is that the more squares that agree, the higher the forecast confidence in the outcome.
That is quite a bit of rain for the OH and TN Valleys. Flooding will eventually become a concern.
Remember, we were in drought. Now we are not.
If this pattern continues into spring then river flooding will be a concern. We don’t have much snowpack to tap into, yet. That could lessen the risk, but let’s keep a close eye on the long range weather pattern.
The snow outlook does not show much hope for accumulating snow. I continue to watch Thursday night into Friday night for light rain or light rain/snow mix.

I am forecasting a widespread one to two inches of rain for the region. Whether we go above two inches will need to be monitored.
For now, the risk of severe weather has been contained to our south. There is not much in the way of instability (CAPE). If there were slightly more CAPE, then I would be increasingly concerned.

What am I looking at?
You are looking at different models. Meteorologists use many different models to forecast the weather. All models are wrong. Some are more wrong than others. Meteorologists have to make a forecast based on the guidance/models.
I show you these so you can see what the different models are showing as far as precipitation. If most of the models agree, then the confidence in the final weather forecast increases.
