Today through August 12th: Summer thunderstorms can produce isolated wind damage and hail. Widespread severe weather is unlikely.
.
.
Today’s outlook (below).
Light green is where thunderstorms may occur but should be below severe levels.
Dark green is a level one risk. Yellow is a level two risk. Orange is a level three (enhanced) risk. Red is a level four (moderate) risk. Pink is a level five (high) risk.
One is the lowest risk. Five is the highest risk.
A severe storm is one that produces 58 mph wind or higher, quarter size hail, and/or a tornado.
The tan states are simply a region that SPC outlined on this particular map. Just ignore that.
The black outline is our local area.

- Cold front with showers and thunderstorms.
- Cooler behind the front. Less humid.

Weather advice:
Monitor your Beau Dodson Weather app. Thunderstorms are likely over the next several days. A few could become severe with high wind gusts.
.
Weather Discussion
Showers and locally heavy thunderstorms dotted radar yesterday and overnight. Some of the storms produced more than four inches of rain! Graves County received some of the heavier rain totals.
There were also one or two reports of high wind gusts with the most intense thunderstorms. One tree fell in Ballard County.
A cold front continues to nudge into our area. It is moving in from the north and is pushing southward. This frontal boundary will once again help support shower and thunderstorm activity today into Wednesday.
With the time, the shower and thunderstorm activity will shift southward. That will bring an end to precipitation chances. The chances will end north to south.
Much of Wednesday may end up dry over our northern counties. Highest precipitation chances will be across the southern half of the region Wednesday.
By Wednesday night, the precipitation chances will end across the Missouri Bootheel and western Kentucky.
Rain totals will vary greatly today into Wednesday. Expect some locations to receive little or no precipitation. Other locations could easily exceed two inches.
Lightning will be a concern for outdoor activities. When thunder roars, move indoors.
Flash flooding is a concern, as well. Slow moving thunderstorms can produce enough rain to quickly flood ditches and roadways. Avoid flooded roadways, as always.
The great news is that Thursday into Sunday will be cooler and less humid. A much nicer air mass is pushing into the region from the north/northwest.
It will feel pleasant. Overnight lows could even dip into the 50s in some locations (mainly northern counties). Either way, a much much nicer air mass. Not nearly as muggy as recent weeks.
Moisture will begin to return to the region Sunday afternoon into Monday. The air will become humid again. A few thunderstorms may also develop Sunday night into Monday. For now, I have low-end chances. I will monitor trends.

Again, as a reminder, these are models. They are never 100% accurate. Take the general idea from them.
What should I take from these?
- The general idea and not specifics. Models usually do well with the generalities.
- The time-stamp is located in the upper left corner.
.
What am I looking at?
You are looking at different models. Meteorologists use many different models to forecast the weather. All models are wrong. Some are more wrong than others. Meteorologists have to make a forecast based on the guidance/models.
I show you these so you can see what the different models are showing as far as precipitation. If most of the models agree, then the confidence in the final weather forecast increases.
You can see my final forecast at the top of the page.
