Today through June 26th:  I am monitoring Wednesday for thunderstorms.  Model guidance is mixed on the idea.  A cold front will push into the region from the north.  This could allow just enough lift for some thunderstorm activity.  If storms develop, then they could be severe.

.

.

Today’s outlook (below).

Light green is where thunderstorms may occur but should be below severe levels.

Dark green is a level one risk. Yellow is a level two risk. Orange is a level three (enhanced) risk. Red is a level four (moderate) risk. Pink is a level five (high) risk.

One is the lowest risk. Five is the highest risk.

A severe storm is one that produces 58 mph wind or higher, quarter size hail, and/or a tornado.

The tan states are simply a region that SPC outlined on this particular map. Just ignore that.

The black outline is our local area.

Weather Discussion

    1.   Hot week ahead.
    2.   Monitoring a cold front Wednesday with a chance of thunderstorms.
    3.   Heat index values won’t be as high this week as they were last week.

Weather advice:

Make sure you are using the Beau Dodson Weather Talk app and not text messages.  We can’t rely on Verizon and ATT to send out the text messages in a timely manner.  Thus, we made the app.  See links at the bottom of the page.

.

Forecast Discussion

A fairly straight forward seven day forecast.

It will be hot this week.  The good news is that the heat index values won’t be as high as last week.  If you remember, heat index values last week range from 110 to 120 degrees.

This week, heat index values will likely be close to actual air temperatures to as perhaps four to eight degrees higher than the air temperature.  That means heat index values more in the 96 to 106 degree range.  Perhaps a tad higher Wednesday.

Monday won’t be too bad.  Highs in the 90s.  Hot, yes.  Not too muggy.  That is the saving grace for Monday.

Tuesday through Sunday will be hot.  Widespread 90s to around 100 degrees.

A weak cold front pushes into the area Wednesday and Wednesday night.  Guidance is mixed on whether this front will have just enough lift to pop another MCS.  A thunderstorm complex.  That happens last week and we had widespread high winds and heavy rain (in some counties).

If a thunderstorm complex does form, then it could produce pockets of wind damage, torrential rain, and frequent lightning.  Monitor updates.  I am being optimistic on placing rain chances at 40% Wednesday.  Let’s see how everything trends over the next 48 to 72-hours.

Otherwise, a dry week is in store for the region.

I am watching another weak cold front next Sunday.  Perhaps an isolated thunderstorm.

Use common sense heat safety rules.

Time to remember the heat safety rules.  We don’t want anyone becoming sick from the heat.

Again, as a reminder, these are models. They are never 100% accurate. Take the general idea from them.

What should I take from these?

  1. The general idea and not specifics. Models usually do well with the generalities.
  2. The time-stamp is located in the upper left corner.

.

What am I looking at?
You are looking at different models. Meteorologists use many different models to forecast the weather. All models are wrong. Some are more wrong than others. Meteorologists have to make a forecast based on the guidance/models.

I show you these so you can see what the different models are showing as far as precipitation. If most of the models agree, then the confidence in the final weather forecast increases.

You can see my final forecast at the top of the page.
