Today through March 31st:   Thunderstorms are possible next week.  I am primarily focused on Wednesday and Wednesday night.  It is too early to know if severe weather will be a concern.  Monitor updates.

The Storm Prediction Center has outlined our region for a risk Wednesday.  Still several days to monitor this.

.

.

Today’s outlook (below).

Light green is where thunderstorms may occur but should be below severe levels.

Dark green is a level one risk. Yellow is a level two risk. Orange is a level three (enhanced) risk. Red is a level four (moderate) risk. Pink is a level five (high) risk.

One is the lowest risk. Five is the highest risk.

A severe storm is one that produces 58 mph wind or higher, quarter size hail, and/or a tornado.

The tan states are simply a region that SPC outlined on this particular map. Just ignore that.

The black outline is our local area.

Weather Discussion

    1.   Cool temperatures.
    2.   Gusty winds, at times.
    3.   Frost possible Saturday night.  Light freeze for some.
    4.   Monitoring next week for additional precipitation chances.

Weather advice:

Make sure you are using the Beau Dodson Weather Talk app and not text messages.  We can’t rely on Verizon and ATT to send out the text messages in a timely manner.  Thus, we made the app.  See links at the bottom of the page.

Forecast Discussion

No major weather concerns today or tonight.

We do have a weak fast moving system that will brush southeast Illinois and the Pennyrile area of western Kentucky later today and this evening.  A couple of light showers will be possible with this feature.  Sprinkles.

Otherwise, a mix of sun and clouds today.  Below average temperatures.

A chilly weekend is on tap for the region.  Gusty winds will make it feel colder.

The coldest night will be Saturday night/Sunday morning.  This is when temperatures will likely dip well into the 30s.  Some locations could even experience a light freeze.  Frost is possible.  Cover your sensitive plants.

No rain or snow Saturday or Sunday.  That is the good news!

Monday and Monday night will likely be dry and warmer.

I have been monitoring Tuesday for shower and thunderstorm chances.  That system has slowed.  I have pushed the rain chances off until Tuesday night and especially Wednesday into Wednesday night.

Showers and thunderstorms may linger into Thursday.

Locally heavy rain will be possible with this event.  There seems to be plenty of moisture showing up in the charts.

Overall, totals are likely to range from 0.7″ to 1.5″.  Locally higher totals in thunderstorms.

What about severe thunderstorms?  Good question.

There are signals for severe weather, but this is still in the long range.

The Storm Prediction Center has outlined our region for a risk.  This would be Wednesday.

Since this event is still several days away, I am certain there will be adjustments in their outlook and the overall forecast.  For now, I am monitoring trends in the guidance.

Here is the Storm Prediction Center’s severe weather outlook.  Again, this is day six.  Several days to monitor this one.

Again, as a reminder, these are models. They are never 100% accurate. Take the general idea from them.

What should I take from these?

  1. The general idea and not specifics. Models usually do well with the generalities.
  2. The time-stamp is located in the upper left corner.

.

What am I looking at?
You are looking at different models. Meteorologists use many different models to forecast the weather. All models are wrong. Some are more wrong than others. Meteorologists have to make a forecast based on the guidance/models.

I show you these so you can see what the different models are showing as far as precipitation. If most of the models agree, then the confidence in the final weather forecast increases.

You can see my final forecast at the top of the page.
