Weather Discussion

    1.    Warm today.  Some clouds.
    2.    Gusty winds into Thursday.
    3.    Shower chances Wednesday afternoon into Thursday morning.
    4.    Weekend rain chances.

Weather advice:

Make sure you are using the Beau Dodson Weather Talk app and not text messages.  We can’t rely on Verizon and ATT to send out the text messages in a timely manner.  Thus, we made the app.  See links at the bottom of the page.

.

Weather Discussion

A fairly straight-forward weather forecast.

We do have some scattered low clouds today.  That might mess with high temperatures in some areas.  These low clouds can be stubborn this time of the year.  Areas with plenty of sunshine today will see temperatures rise into the 70s!  Areas with more clouds will linger in the 60s.

Satellite shows the scattered nature of the clouds this morning.  Wide range of sky conditions.  This makes for a tricky forecast from one county to the next.

A cold front will advance towards the region Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday night.  This cold front will deliver widespread showers and isolated thunderstorms.  Rain totals of 0.30″ to 0.60″ are anticipated.  Locally heavier totals will be possible.

It will remain warm enough for this event to be an all rain event.  Sorry snow fans.

Southerly gusty winds will develop today and linger into Thursday, as well.  Expect occasional gusts to 20 mph today and up to 30 mph Wednesday.

These southerly winds will help transport higher moisture into our region.  That sets the stage for the Wednesday afternoon into Thursday morning rain event.

A few showers are possible as early as Wednesday afternoon over primarily southeast Missouri and southern Illinois.  Then, the activity will spread east/southeast late in the day into Wednesday night.

The front will push off to the east by Thursday morning.  A few lingering showers will be possible Thursday morning over mainly western Kentucky and Tennessee.  The further east you travel the more likely you will encounter a Thursday morning rain shower.

Most of the region will be dry Thursday and that dry weather should last through at least Saturday afternoon.

The cold front will bring colder air into the region late Wednesday night and that will linger into the weekend.

Another system is poised to bring some rain showers to the region late Saturday night into Sunday night/Monday morning.  It may be cold enough for a wintry mix Sunday night.  This will need to be monitored.

At this time, accumulating snow and ice appears unlikely.  As always, monitor updates moving forward.

Again, as a reminder, these are models. They are never 100% accurate. Take the general idea from them.

What should I take from these?

  1. The general idea and not specifics. Models usually do well with the generalities.
  2. The time-stamp is located in the upper left corner.
  3. The EC European weather model is in Zulu time.

.

What am I looking at?
You are looking at different models. Meteorologists use many different models to forecast the weather. All models are wrong. Some are more wrong than others. Meteorologists have to make a forecast based on the guidance/models.

I show you these so you can see what the different models are showing as far as precipitation. If most of the models agree, then the confidence in the final weather forecast increases.

You can see my final forecast at the top of the page.
